Biggest Loser "Couples"

I just thought I would pass this along to any fans.
I live about 20 miles from Roger. A friend at work this morning told me that he lost his job at Jacksonville State University for being gone too long on the show. Shame because I thought he made every positive example for the students and even faculty.

Wow, that totally blows! I started watching too late into the show and didn't know what the contestants jobs are, but that sucks. Was her a professor there? If so, couldn't he have taken a sabbatical? At any rate, I hope he is hired some place soon.

While I want a girl to win the show because I know how hard it is on girls, I have admired Roger the most throughout the show. He seems to be exactly the same person as he was once he came to the show and I'm really glad that Bob highlighted that last night after revealing his former image.

I think Roger is a no bullshit kinda guy and just told the boys on the blue team how it was all the way through.

I can't believe that Mark even tried to act like he did what he had to do when he was voted off, because he freaking balked and had to be coaxed into sticking to his own words.

And always, I understand it's a show, and we as viewers see the angle that the producers want us to see because it makes good television, so these people may not be the same in person.

At any rate I voted for Roger last night as the 3rd contestant because I think between he and Mark, he deserves it more if one of the girls don't win.

Go Ali and Kelly! I'm also really proud Kelly is seeing that she really can kick ass and lose weight too.

edited: Oh it looks like he was only at the job for a few months before taking leave, I guess that does say something too.

I voted for Roger. Because I really think Mark would nearly kill himself to win and I don't want him winning $250,000 for crying nonstop the past few weeks. It's so annoying. I really hate it when Kelly whines and cries, too, so it's not a gender-related thing. I'm just not big on criers. If Roger really did lose his job, that's a shame. He seems like a good guy. Of course now he'll have all kind of speaking engagements lined up. They all did amazing. The girls lost so much for so far in the game.

Yeah, as far as how they put up such big numbers at their last week on campus, it's all about starvation and dehydration. From what past contestants have said, they were probably all on diuretics and ate only Jell-O a day or two before the weigh-in. They can do that for the last week because they don't have to worry about the rebound for the following week. They do the same thing for the finale. One previous contestant said he gained 20 lbs the day after the finale.

Also, their weeks are 10 days, not the traditional 7. I read this on wikipedia, and Mark confirmed it last night with his statement about being on campus for 5 months. 15 normal weeks does not equate to 5 months. But 15 10-day weeks does :)

It's still on atm and I'm watching thsi week's episode. I can't say that "I'm a fan" of the show, but it is inspiring and I love to see the transformation.

But what I want to know is how did Ali lose over 10lbs in one week weighing only 146lbs? - Well, how did she lose it in a healthy way?! Losing those kinds of numbers are easier to understand when folks are dozens of pounds overweight, but I'm puzzled how she did it. At over 170lbs myself, I cant imagine losing 10lbs in one week. The most I have lost in one week is @5lbs and that was when I lost my father and I wasnt able to eat for a few days.

Someone may have already answered this but.......
it was more than 1 week.
Remember they didn't have the trainers for the first week when they got home and then they had a 2nd week.
And with Ali's # that she always puts up it didn't surprise me in the least. On the whole she usually loses 4-6 every week. So that number x's 2 = a pretty big number.
They did the show that way so that it would be more suspenseful.

lmao, J-State should fire their A.D. Had he gave Roger a few more weeks and rolled the dice, a small college couldn't buy this must (positive) publicity if Roger wins. Why not hire another asst. give him the sabbatical ??

This A.D. folded preflop with aces. imo. No matter what happens next week (other than Roger blowing up huge) he'll still be very marketable - even if short term.

Production schedules are always a pretty guarded secret and so are the contestant diets. I wouldn't take to heart we see things on a standard week 'as-is'. TV/Hollywood will use tricks till the end of time, BL won't exempt itself from shenanigans.

Just to clarify

I heard on a local radio station at lunch that Jacksonville State University where Roger was an Assistant Athletic Director, was very supportive of his time on the show. The problem came when Roger returned. He wanted more time to spend with his family. That is when he was fired. They are home 6 weeks before the finale. It was not made clear how much time Roger asked for.

Also found out that Roger had only been there since last May. So he was there for 4 months. Then took off 5 to be on a TV show. Then asked for more time when he returned.

I'm sooooooo SUPER PROUD of Ali & Kelly. :hurray:

It almost made me ill, :leaving: but I had to vote for Mark bc I want a girl to win FINALLY!

If Roger ends up in the running for the grand prize, I don't think the gurls will have a chance. Roger still had lots of possible weight that could be lost once leaving BL and returning home.

I'm rooting for Kelly to win, but lil Ms. Ali may be our first woman BL! :coolgleamA:

I can't wait till next Tuesday!!!!

Jillian ROCKS! :sifone:

Yeah, I gathered all the math equations and certainly with only a handful of months in, he got the benefit of time off most employers wouldn't even consider. My point is the 'fired' press release was 3/28. The show ends on 4/15 so really you might as well give him until 4/28 to return (in case he wins and does obligatory TV tours and press junkets) and exploit the bejesus out of his 15 minutes of fame. Really, what's another month at this point ?? That's PR gold.

Maybe this shit went to head, too *shrugs* I dunno but a good A.D. woulda been way ahead of this one.

Just sayin'

I'm so proud of Kelly! She did awesome! Ali, you did great too girl! My vote is for Roger. Out of him and Kelly, I they both were my favorites. =)

Go Kelly Go!!

Too bad about Rogers job situation.

I think Kelly has huge potential to beat even Roger if she keeps up the weight loss. She's short, like I am, and could easily loose another 50 pounds and be very healthy. Ali just doesn't have much left she can loose safely. Mark has NONE - he's getting too skinny.

As for Roger's job - well we don't know all the circumstances or what was said. The school must have felt terminating his employment was the right decision. Only time will tell, though.

God Bless,
mik

Also, their weeks are 10 days, not the traditional 7. I read this on wikipedia, and Mark confirmed it last night with his statement about being on campus for 5 months. 15 normal weeks does not equate to 5 months. But 15 10-day weeks does :)

Yeah I caught that too and I was thinking that more than a week had passed because they all looked so much different from the previous episode. I wasn't aware that Wiki had the details but I was sure more than a week had gone by. Roger looked like a different person after the Australia trip. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if more than 10 days passed between Australia and last nights show, the weight loss was pretty spectacular, more than usual, especially for the now skinny Mark and Ali.

this will be my first BL finale.. so how is the winner chosen? Because based on what Jillian said, Ali has the highest % of weight loss. Is it based on % or lbs or what? Or something totally unrelated?

The winner will have lost the biggest % of weight lost relative to their starting body weight. The kicker is they are home for 6 weeks before the final weigh in, 6 weeks is a long time and anything can happen since they are pretty close as far as % lost. Well Kelly wasn't all that close at the end of week 15 but Ali, Mark and Roger are all within a 3% range. If anyone has an advantage, assuming he wins the vote, its Mark. He won the wk 15 challenge and gets his meals prepared by a BL chef from week 15 until the finale. Either way he's bound to win something since the biggest loser of those eliminated gets a prize as well. I think its 100K. I'm curious to see who kept on track over the 6 wks.

How long was Ali home before she came back and had lost a considerable amount of weight it seemed? If anyone can stick to it, it's definitely her I think.
But both she and Mark seem to be pretty darn close to a weight that will be unhealthy.

Yeah I don't know, at 5'10" 169# Mark looks pretty good to me. His face is a little gaunt looking but I bet he can't see his abs yet. Ali is closer to being underweight at 5'5" 135#. Part of it is she wasn't blessed with a proportionate physique. Take a look at her legs, she is pretty thick through the calf and thigh areas but very thin through the torso. I'll bet if you put their stats into a bmi calc neither would be underweight. I know the bmi isn't gospel but IMO neither looks unhealthy.

Well, it is a game. Yeah, Ali and Mark could pull awesome numbers in their last weigh in, and look very thin and unhealthy. But because of the % they could win the Biggest Loser Prize. After winning, I suppose they could just gain back a bit more weight so that they are more healthier looking.

Hell, I know if I was down to the final 3 I would be losing as much weight as I could just to win the prize, then gain back 15 to 20 pounds to be healthy.
I'm unsure if what I said makes sense, but you get where I'm headed.

I don't get the being thin is unhealthy talk. Sure Mark and Ali have lost a bunch but neither look like they have an eating disorder. Plenty of men who are 5'10" weigh much less than Mark's 169, he's just a few pounds from being back into an overweight BMI catagory and Ali is a long, long way from shopping in the petite dept. I know lots of woman who are 5'5" and weigh less than Ali's 135 that don't starve themselves or excercise. Even if they weigh in 15 lbs less at the finale both with still be in the acceptable BMI range. Yeah I know the BMI calc's are flawed but it's flawed the other way, it doesn't work for athletes and body builders who weigh 270 and have 34" waists and have a BMI of 38.

BMI is flawed for both extreme ends of the spectrum.

Consider how hard Ali and Mark work out - they have a lot of muscle. They really don't have much fat they can loose and still remain healthy. If they lost 15 pounds, they would be starting to look a little too hollow. Also remember that the television camera adds 10 to 15 pounds to a person. If some of us think they look a little too thin NOW, just imagine how they may look in real life, up close and personal.

God Bless,
mik

169 is the high end of normal for a guy his height and build. He could lose another 10 to 15 pounds without being too thin.
