Big Mac's Lifestyle Change

Has anyone tried the Barilla Plus pasta? I am in love with it.

Pasta with protein. Clean ingredients to, I couldnt find them on the site but nothing I can't pronounce.

I like the whole wheat pasta better then regular, but the rest of my family doesn't. I've tried to cut pasta down to a minimum, so I just get the regular now. It's so cheap when you find it on sale. I looked at the Barilla plus, but the price was three times regular. If I was making it for just me, then I'd go that way, but to pay for having the kids turn their noses up at it, I'd rather just go with less or none.

Thats a good reason to eat less. Buy the pasta cheapskate! My experience with children is that they will eat pretty much anything after the third day.

My guys are real good about eating. They have a varied diet with lots of veggies. If they don't like something, it usually means that they really don't like it. We also have the three bite rule. If you don't like something you still have to take three bites. Most kids will learn to like the thing.

There are some exceptions to the rule, though. My son doesn't like peanut butter. Likes peanuts, but not ground down. I'm not going to force him, we'll go with something else, like just jelly sandwiches.

Also, when darling wife says no whole wheat pasta, it's a no go.

Got ya. I was just funnin. I would still recomend that pasta though. If you are eating it alone you will get like 7 servings for a box. Also not to be too pushy but it does taste different than the whole wheat pasta and it isnt as brown which I honestly think was my kids turn off to the whole wheat. They eat the Barilla pasta fine. Also we don't make the pasta dishes they are use to with normal pasta like spaghetti and lasagna. That seems to help them a little as well.

Thats awesome, I'm gonna try it. Too bad they dont have lasagna noodles.

I agree, I like the whole wheat is pretty delicious. I know a lot of people don't have a taste for it though. My food options have opened up a lot more since I started eating healthy. I'm ready to try a lot of stuff I never used to like. Maybe I should try broccoli again, bet it'll still make me gag though.

Yeah, Ed, I figured you were. I was laughing to my self because as I was typing it I was thinking that it sounds like I'm cheap. I pretty much consider pasta to be mostly devoid of nutrition anyway, and I'll get my nutrients elsewhere. To try to fit it into pasta is not really my thing. Bread, hell yeah. I don't think my kids have ever had a white bread sandwich. At least not from me. Pasta, well, they are only an eighth Italian, and it is not on my side. :D

Shaun, I keep forgetting that you have that aversion to broccoli. Too bad. It's really great, and great for you. Get it fresh and steam it just till it turns a darker green. Then eat with a little vinegar. You might change your ideas. I think that a lot of vegetable that I used to not like, it was because they were not fresh and/or not prepared right.

Mom was always good about getting fresh veggies, and shes an amazing cook. I don't know what it is... just the taste makes me sick to my stomach, feel like I'm gonna throw up. Even those steamed veggies when ya go out to eat, if it has broccoli in it... everything tastes like broccoli. :puke:

Take three bites. :D

Your never too old to eat things you dont like. I've always disliked stuffing, but I'd put a bit on my plate every occasion to see if it tastes any good. This past Christmas I actually liked it, and I went back for more.

Oh another thing. Raw broccoli tastes different than cooked in my opinion. Broccoli in garlic hummus is mmmmmmmm. I recommend giving that a shot!

Well then that must have been the way it was prepared amanda.

I've had all different kinds of broccoli and it has always made me feel sick. Why would I keep eating it? That'd be like putting your hand on a hot stove and getting burnt, then saying... hey the stove is on and hot, but maybe this time it won't burn me. :D

That being said, I will taste it once more. The results of that test will determine a ban. :D

Brussle sprouts. I hated them. Then I tried them cooked right and now they are one of my favorites. A friend was making dinner and had some frozen and asked if I like them. Sure. Then I ate it. Nope, that the way I can't stand it. I choked it down to be polite, but I'd rather do the cooking.

Liver. Can't stand it, but I'll try it every now and then just to see. Had some last year and it didn't make me gag, but I still don't like it. Never give up trying though.

I guess you guys are more adventurous. I know I don't like things so I don't eat them. To me its just not that complicated. ;)

I'd definately say I'm super adventurous with food. I'll try anything once. I tried anchovies on pizza when I was younger and hated it. Tried it on Tuesday and found it to be really good. I've even tried chicken feet. Now THAT is something that I honestly do not like. Maybe if there was meat on them and they didn't just have the texture of thick skin.

It's cool your not adventurous. I know many people like that. While I'll never understand the closed mind to food, I have no problem with people not wanting to try foods, or not eat foods they don't like. I just try to push for the adventurous side because I feel that others must have some form of adventure in them. I seriously hate when people make disgusting faces at you when they dont like what you are eating because they've never tried it.

Heh, I understand what you're saying Amanda. I'm not THAT unadventurous. I will try anything. As a rule of thumb though, once I try it a few times and still don't like it... I chalk it up to the "things shaun doesn't like" category. Would you eat chicken feet again? If you tried them again and didn't like them would you continue? Those are the situations I find myself in. I'm not so closed-minded as to not be willing to try things though.
