Hey guys, I have sort of a weird problem. I can currently bench press a maximum of 195 lb. My goal is to achieve hypertrophy (increased muscle size). The recommendation is to do 8-12 reps at 70% to 85% of my max. This is about 135 lb to 165 lb.
However, I'm nowhere close to being able to do 8 reps of 165, especially on a later set. The most weight i can do 8 reps on would be about 150-155. What could be the problem?
Btw, I begin my workout doing 12 reps of 115 (60%). Should I increase my starting weight?
