Better Second Life Diary

Thank you for your support on day 19!

Hey Roberta, yep I followed through for once and I'm on day 2. I'm already re-assessing like you though because I think I go TOO low carb and I'm just not thinking I can do it this time. I'll probably end up more along the lines of what you're doing cuz right now I'm on Atkins induction and eating 20 carbs a day. I hardly ever eat fruit but now that I can't have it I went through the product section like it was the candy aisle, lol. Think thats the first thing I'm adding back in. Anyway 17 days, awesome job! How are you feeling?

Hey!!! Thank you again for stopping by my diary. Your encouragement means so much to me.

Yeah, I had to re-assess some thing to make it work for me and to keep down the possibility that I might go off the diet. Low carbs are working for me and I'm watching what I eat. Those carbs can sneak up on you when you least expect it.

I'm so happy for you too! Atkins induction can be hard, but oh, the rewards. I know what you mean when you say the fruit isle has come like the candy isle LOL! At least it's healthy!

XOXO

Berta

Yea I've decided it's too restrictive so while I'm still watching what kinds of carbs I eat and how much as well as calories, I added some stuff in today. Strawberries, cottage cheese ...all healthy but not on induction. I don't think cottage cheese is allowed very far into Atkins at all anyway. But anyway I'm going to eat healthy but realistically. I would have added low-carb tortillas in today except I got to the store and they don't seem to carry them anymore

I have a weigh in with my doctor a week from Tuesday. My goal is to lose a pound.

I am sticking to my low-carb, high protein and it really makes a difference. I am more proactive in my approach to my food plan. This time I am really watching what I eat!

Day 19 with encouragement

Sounds like you're doin great :) I'll be cheerin for you come next Tuesday. How was your weekend?
:grouphug::grouphug:

Thank you so much for your encouragement. I'm doing fine. My weekend was hard as I struggled with some unresolved emotional issues, which came to the fore since I didn't use food to medicate. It manifested in some serious physical food cravings. I attended 5 on-line OA meetings to help. But the evenings before bed was the hardest. I had some tuna made for just this reason. But fortunately I didn't resort to that.

I'm finding carbs in just about everything! I am really watching what I eat and the carb content. This will get easier

My friend on this journey, know that I support your efforts 100%!!! You have been such a good friend.

XOXO!:grouphug::bigear:

I struggle with that too. I eat when I'm stressed, bored, or just to have a bright spot in my day. Food...my best friend and worst enemy ;/. I don't binge anymore like I used to when I was younger but I still have food issues for sure.

Anyway you really are doin great. There's ALOT of recipes that are low-carb you can make ahead even so spice stuff up. I've tried several here but there's ALOT so I haven't worked my way through them all.

And thank you! It's great to have somebody else to have support and also cheer on. I really appreciate you :)

Hello my friend. I cannot believe it has been 21 days. And I've had you here with me! Thank you.

Food used to be my best friend too. I would isolate myself to keep from being around people so I could eat. It helped me to avoid the real problems in my life. I spent my days planning what I was going to eat, preparing it and of course eating it. I realize now that I have an addiction and with most addictions I have to fight it as hard as I can. The problem is we need food to survive, but for me, unchecked, I can't stop eating.

This diet is seeming to help. I can't believe I have made it three weeks! Food has been such a large part of my life that I don't know what to do now that I don't focus on it as much. That is not to say that my cravings have lessened. That has not happened. But I am prepared for them. Got almonds and sugar free puddings in case of emergency. I also plan to have "manwhich" without the bread, something I have been craving. When I shop now, I am mindful of the carb count in every single thing. This is much better than the hit and miss kind of diet I had before.

I think I will suceed on this one.

XOXO

I think so too :) And THREE WEEKS!! You GO girl!!:hurray: The first 3 weeks are so hard and thats a huge accomplishment, I know you must feel great about that. Can't wait until we're a few months in and get to celebrate :D

Oh I was happy today, guess what I found? Low-carb tortillas at another store. My regular store didn't have any but today I was grabbing some stuff fast and bam, there they were. Makes life easier for sure when I don't have to order stuff like that online, lol.

Anyway hope you're havin a great day. How's everything else goin besides?

Thoughts on day 21

I've been giving a lot of thought to my issue with weight. In OA I am forced to confront the reasons behind why I overeat.

I come from an abusive background. Parents, and other relatives were alcoholics. My siblings and I prided ourselves on not taking that first drink. But looking around me, I see so many hurt people..left in the wake of addiction. We are all overweight and two of us have undergone surgery. Our drug of choice is food. Our pain at our childhoood has manifested into this self destructive behavior, that, if left unchecked, could very well kill us. But most of us think we are alright and still give a pat on the back for not being alcoholics. We overspend, our emotions are out of control....we are lost.

For me, I eat when I'm stressed, I eat when I'm happy, I eat to reward myself, I eat when I am worried, I eat when I am...you name it and I find a reason to eat. I have isolated myself from my friends and family so that I can eat in peace. I have to one day make amends to everyone I hurt by my behavior. But ending the pain is hard. And it's very hard to face a pain filled life without medicating myself with food.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life. I affirm today that I will not overeat and that I will stick to my diet, by the grace of God.:seeya:

Hey friend of mine on this journey into life! How are you today? From your post you are very well! I'm glad you are finding low carb options. Can you give me the brand name of the tortillas? I had a taste for tacos the other day and it just wasn't the same. Flour tortillas have 25g of carbs, and I have sworn off sugar and flour.

You are doing GREAT!!!! I am so proud of you!! I too when we are a few months in and can celebrate our new lives together! Won't that be grand?

I got an industrial strength scale. I was shocked to find that I had lost another 3 pounds. But I will wait for the doctor's visit to see if our scales are in sync.

Otherwise, I am doing well. Much better on high protein and low carb. Oh, slimfast has a very creamy and dreamy low carb chocolate shake now! YUM!!!

The tortillas I found today are "Tumaro's Gourmet Tortillas", multi grain low carb, 5 net carbs per. I haven't tried one yet. I think the other tortillas I was getting were La Tortilla Factory but I'm not sure. I may have just seen that around the forum one too many times, lol. And awesome about the slimfast, I'm going to have to check those out because Atkins "new great taste" is watered down and nasty. But not alot of alternatives that are not full of sugar. So where'd you find the slimfast ones? I'm silly, I get so excited when I find new products that I know are going to help me on my diet. Oh and have you tried the fifty/50 jellies? Half their profits go to diabetic research and they are the best low carb/sugar jellies I've had. I also use heinz 1 carb ketchup.

I planned, counted and weighed out tonights dinner and dessert.

I'm even having sugar free, fat free vanilla pudding that I made. 6 grams of carb!!!

Day 22

Learned a valuable lesson last night, one that I had promised myself I would learn but never did.

I think I am so hungry that I do not take the time to chew my food properly. :banghead:Before the Gastric Bypass I was taught specifically to chew my food at least 21 times. One thing I had forgotten, but abruptly remembered last night. I inhaled part of my broccoli first, then part of my manwich when it got stuck. I think this "tool" is left over from my bypass. I know I did not chew properly because most nights I pray to chew the way I should and ENJOY what I have prepared. I forgot when I first started this diet and regretted it all through the night as the pain is horrible. Well I forgot again, and was reminded of why I need to chew my food. I'll never forget again.

Cravings came later, but I was ready for them, with small portions of tuna and pudding...not whole servings.

recovery and be fearless and thorough no
matter where I am on my journey.

A total of five pounds off!!!
 YAY, Congratz !!!!

You know whats really weird? I weighed myself this morning and you and I lost 5 pounds at the same time, lol. Guess we're true weightloss buddies.

Love those meditations you keep posting. I went to the link and but I didn't check it out in depth yet as there is alot there but I'm very interested.

Oh and I went to Walmart and found those slimfast shakes :) I read the nutrional info and those would work even if I was still doing induction. So I bought too boxes...both vanilla though unfortunately because they were out of chocolate. Atkins is gonna lose some money when people realize they drink the slimfast ones that taste good instead of those "new great taste" crappy Atkins ones. I'm still so mad they watered the dang things down and remarked them as better. Thanks again for the tip :)

Hope you're having a great day, bet you are with that 5lbs down :) ~Lisa

Hello there friend of mine on this journey!

Thank you so much for the name of the low carb tortillas. I like the fact that they are multi-grain.

As to the Atkins shakes, you have me laughing so hard. "Nasty" is my word for most of the stuff they tout on the Atkins diet. Have you tried the protein bars? YUKKY!! You are right about not a lot of alternatives without the sugar. I find Slimfast great when i need a quick snack, or when I've missed a meal. Also a few sips when I need a "sugar rush" helps. The strawberries and cream flavor is good...a bit more carbs...but the amount that I drink at one time won't hurt me.

I get excited too when I find low carb alternatives. The other day I found my favorite coffee creamer in a no sugar brand!!! I only drink decaf, but I love the french vanilla flavor of the creamer.

We are wonderful buddies on this journey together. You have great ideas! You can't fail on this diet this time my friend!

XOXO

WAY TO GO LISA!!!! I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOU! Now we are real weight loss buddies..on the same path and determined to lose this weight.

I get the meditations from Overeater's Anoynmous. They have round the clock meetings every three hours and I attend as many as I can before school starts. They are really helping me in addition to the high protein-low carb-no-sugar-no-flour diet.

I find I have a bit more energy these days. How about you? Any change in your energy level?

I still have the cravings, but I work hard not to give in. I'd like to see the weight change at the doctor's next week and again on the 16th.

How is your day going otherwise?

XOXO

Berta
