bench weight??

Hey
i was just wondering what weight all you PT start a beginner bencher on?
i just started training my mate, should i just start him light and work up to c how much he can do???
 
It's all relative to how long they can keep proper form and sets and reps... Ideally you should shoot for 'near momentary muscle failure' between the desired rep range....
 
thanks ... she he got up to 4 reps with fine form on 55lbs should i push him harder or is that ok for a bit??? is that any good for a beginner??
 
dont push her harder. remember she is a beginner! she only need light weight for the couple of few weeks so as to get her muscle used.... however, you are doing great!! cheers
 
If she's a complete beginner shoot for the 10 rep range. Of course, if she's getting 4 reps with 55 pds, then just go with the bar and shoot for 1-2 reps below failure.
