Bad back

Any suggestions for lower back workouts/stretches to help with a herniated disk?
My condition is mild: always have stiffness in the area, a little trouble standing up sometimes, once in a while pain. Otherwise it doesn't bother me much but I have to be careful. Basically, I'd like the area's muscles to be stronger because I reason that will help prevent the condition. Any suggestions appreciated.

Its such a delicate area that I would not take advice from anyone other than a Pro. Try seeing a sports therapist.

Manofkent is absolutely right and I would also suggest to keep it simple and basic. Perhaps something like this:

This link has good info:

When my lower back was messed up(L1 and L2) my doctor set me up with some exercises using one of those big 'yoga balls'. It did help. Having a decent mattress is also key.
