back pain

so i hurt my back about month and a half ago. around the lower back area. i hurt my back doing deadlifts with improper form. i rested for around 3 days using heating and ibuprofern and it went away. Then i was pain free for 3 weeks until i tried deadlifts again and reinjured my back though doin them with proper from and with light weight. Now i had slight pain compared to the major pain the first time. pain for the last two weeks and continued training. now its not a bad pain its just annoying sometimes. its on the lower back and in the middle back right about where the ribs start. ive been resting the last couple days and am feeling better. doing alot of heating and elevation while resting. my dad told me to take two weeks off and if the pain goes away then should i start weightlifting just without deadlifts. because it sems to be the only exercise to bother my back. Because after the first time i injured it went away i was doing other exercises without pain coming back.
Thanks for any suggestions.

What i always learned is once you hurt something, its never the same. It will never be as good as it was when you first started, especially in the back area. My dad hurt his back and has been having problems for like 20 years now.

well my dad has had a herniated disc for almost 20 years and i dont want to have that and i think i pulled a muscle. i would think best is to rest till it gets better and then wait about a week after that before training.

Resting always helps everything until you do the exercise again. The muscle reached its limit and broke or pulled, etc. Now its weaker than before. That is my perception of it.

and the pain i have now isnt affecting my everyday life i can still keep active without really any pain. the last couple days resting has helped get the pain down. ive been using a heating pad for 30 mins around 4 times a day and the last two days i took ibuprofern before going to bed to help. im prolly gonna stop the ibuprofern because its not great to take them all the time. ill just rest and heat. i have weight training in school now and ill guess ill just tell my coach i cant lift for a couple weeks.

thanks. i thought about that. like work with the pain as long as its not very painful but lightly so it doesnt affect it. would endurance work such as bridges be helpful and supermans be helpful?

Injuries can happen, make sure you are fully healed before you try putting stress on it. And as for never being the same after an injury, I don't buy that. Sure, in some extreme cases, but the human body is a truly amazing thing. You can break bones in your body, and it will heal itself back up to 100% in time, which is a wonderful thing. So that said, give your back time to heal and get back in the gym...

I hurt my back years ago and, of course, my doctor said to never do deadlifts again. So I went for 10 years with no deadlifts and it just never got much better. It didn't hurt most of the time, but whenever I did certain things, like stand in one place or walk slowly for a period of time it would tighten up and be very painful.

So after 10 years of doing it my doctors way, I figured it was time to try something else. I started doing stiff legged deadlifts with the empty bar, sets of 15 reps and added 5 pounds every couple of weeks. Ten years later I was doing 315x15 and 365x6 and the heavier the weights got the better my back felt! I just started doing regular deadlifts a couple of months ago and did 390x3 this morning. I have a little DOMS after every deadlift workout, but very little other problems now.

when i hurt my back from deadlifts i actually iced it for awhile, then heat for awhile and i also wrapped my back with ace wrap so its stable. It helped alot.

thanks everyone. seems like we've all had a share of back pain from deadlifts. yes ve done alot of heating. but sleeping seems to help the most with ur feet elevated of a couple pillows. really takes stress off back. and dswithers nice job with those improvements. and how the back pain is better. and wondering what does DOMS mean?
