Hello, I just made an account because I have a few questions that I've had trouble finding. I'm 15, most of my family is very overweight and for most of my life I thought that was normal. I took up all their eating habits and ate soooo much more than I should have. Eventually I realized that I looked like a COW and I decided to cut out major portions of my food. During this time I became homeschooled because our family was moving around a lot. I'm going back to school next semester. I REALLY REALLY don't want to be extra heavy when I go, I don't know if I can handle living every day surrounded by people that judge me based on my weight. I'm 239 pounds as of now, and my goal is 130, which is my recommend weight for my BMI. (I'm 5'1) I want to know if it's possible to loose a pound a day? Should I be having an extreme diet? As of now I only drink water and tend to stay more towards vegetables but I do cheat sometimes. I'm think about completely cutting out junk food for a year, and seeing where that gets me. I also don't excercise because I hate the feeling of my fat jiggling everywhere but if that's what it takes to get to my goal I'll do it. I hope so much that I can be my goal weight before I start school. But that's sometime in January, and it's almost October now. Maybe I'm crazy, I just want to know if I can do it. That will motivate me.

No matter what you do, do it GRADUALLY! This is the only way to lose weight and keep the new weight! On the first day maybe decide you are taking out all snacks from your menu, then maybe sugar, etc, but give your body time to adjust to the new conditions and never, never starve yourself! You will only gain more weight this way.. Good luck!!

Hi man,
First of all, its amazing that you have decided to get fit. I know how rough people can be when you are FAT. Been there, it was so rough that I even tried to commit suicide because of all the teasing, body shaming which destroyed my self belief, my self confidence but here I am today proud having lost 70 kgs (155lbs). I embarked on this joruney in the year 2015 and been doing it ever since.

Coming to your point, losing 100lbs in such a short period of time will be next to impossible. My advice, take it one step at a time. You may be over weight when you start school but look at it this way, at the start you were overweight and by the time its mid year of school, you would have lost majority of the weight (considering you start right away) and look better and also the best part (I feel so) you get everyone's attention because they saw you on day 1 and they are seeing you that day.

Starting Immediately, since you are young, you need not go full throttle on dieting. Just make healthier choices. I would say do the following
- Exercising daily is a MUST. This is a necessity. Can be as simple as bicycling/ running or you can even YouTube and see for home based workouts and do them daily.
- Stop all junk food. Eat them occasionally (only when you know you EARNED IT. [If you cant answer the question if you earned it, then you probably didnt])
- Stop all added sugars. This means no chocolates, no sodas, no juices. Instead have fresh fruits, fresh fruit juices without added sugar (you may use honey but not in large amounts). You can treat yourself to sugars again only when you know you have earned it.
- It is a long term affair. So dont expect changes in a month.
- Click photos of yourself to compare every month and never rely on the weighing scale to gauge your progress (if you have been true to eating healthy and exercise). Why? The scale may tell a different story from what the photos do :).
- Eat healthy home made food. Include at least 4 different colored vegetables daily.
- Eat more of protein as it keeps you full for a longer time.

Hope this helped :)

my success has focused on two factors... 1) there is added sugar in almost all processed foods. for example i used to buy packaged corn bread... corn bread, that has corn, it must be ok. briefly, i now make my own corn bread from a recipe i got on the internet. the entire recipe i make has as much sugar as the packaged corn bread has in ONE SERVING... 12x the amount of sugar as in my home made version. i currently keep my sugar intake to less than 6-8 gm/ day.

2) i have also found a gold mine in intermittent fasting (<<< Google it... you will find lots of videos). to lose weight and keep it off, you have to get your body into a fat burning mode. this isn't done with reduced calories... it kicks in when your body has no food to process for at least 12-14 hours. this is pretty similar to a Keto diet, but much easier. i only eat within a 4 hour window once a day.

for months now i have been losing 1½ - 2 lbs/ week. i started at a BMI of 31 and now i am only a few lbs from a 24 healthy BMI.

i don't know if this is allowed here... they do not "sell" any programs in their talks, but i would recommend looking for lectures by Robert H. Lustig (on sugar consumption) and those of Jason Fung (on fasting).

good luck...gary
