Sorry Micheal7,
I've not tried Layout 13 diet program myself. Previous pre-bundled "diet" packages have never worked for me either. For example: South Beach ( ) , Idaho Plate ( ), etc. etc.
For my body to drop its previous 60 lbs, I simply starting counting calories. An average body needs 2,000-2,500 calories a day (depending on its physical size and "normal" daily activities at work & play). For each day, I would restrict myself to "average" number of max carbs per meal and snacks. And in parallel, I would implement extra daily exercise as well. Even simple "around the block" walks were done. In the end, 60 extra lbs were gone. (giant smile)
To search each food item and its "average" calorie, I use online CalorieKing ( ). For example, 1 x small read apple = 55 calories. To burn the food away, it would take one of the following: 15 mins of walking , 6 mins of jogging, 5 mins of swimming, or 8 mins of cycling. When I ate the apple, I would "double the exercise time". re: Walk 30 minutes instead of 15 minutes. Thus, forcing my body to burn its extra body fat for 15 minutes.

As a suggestion, make your own daily detailed tracking logs (8.5 x11 pad of paper) or use a free online tracker program. Track both calories in and exercise out. Ensure exercise burn is always more then calories in. Over time, your extra body weight will come off. Mathamatically, this method forces your body to burn previously stored fat. Works for me...
Hope this helps your body as well...
