Annev's journey to goal!

Hi! I am new to this forum - this is my very first post! :) Please bear with me whilst I find my way around...

I had my second child 8 months ago. I put on an indulgent 46 lbs (although 10.5 of them was pure baby!). I have managed to lose all the weight I put on during pregnancy and a few pounds more, but I was overweight to begin with so I still have more to lose. I aim to get down to about 145 lbs.

It is really important to me that my kids grow up with a healthy attitude to food and I do not want to follow any strict diets as we all eat together. I will just reduce my portion sizes and cut down on snacks, and try to get more exercise. I will try to weigh in weekly and track my progress here.

I haven't been less than 155 for as long as I can remember, but you only live once and this time I really want to get down to my ideal weight. I hope you will all cheer me on on my journey! :)

Wow, congratulations on the weight loss so far! You're off to an incredible start. What kind of exercise do you do?

Hi Stasia and thanks for replying! I see you are new here too - how much have you got to lose and what is your strategy?

For the first 6 months after giving birth, I only walked with the baby. I walk my daughter to school and back every weekday, so that clocks up about 5 miles per day without any extras, like walking into town. I have recently started going to the gym again, but finding it hard to fit in as my husband works away and is only here every second weekend to help me look after the kids. I do however have a Rebounder trampoline and DVD, really should brush the dust off them and work out whilst the baby is sleeping...

First, I have to recover from this back ache which has had me virtually bed-bound since Friday. It is starting to ease off, so hopefully I will be back to full health soon. I think it is a remnant of pregnancy problems... I had really bad pelvic girdle pain when pg, which is one of the reasons I put on so much weight as I could not move much. That, and my craving for all things sweet, especially cinnamon swirls.... yum!

I've got almost 40 pounds to lose. I'm near 180 right now and want to get down to 140. I'm eating well and doing at least one hour of exercise a day between my stationary bike and workout shows on Fit tv.

Eventually, I'd love for my husband to get involved so we can do outdoor things together. He'd like to as well- he's just a 'maybe next week' kind of guy. :)

Hope your back gets better fast! Good luck.

Well, I seem to have caught my daughter's flu and being ill has deprived me of all appetite so I am down 3 lbs already! Just hope it will stay off given that I lost it in a rather unhealthy manner!

I love having the ticker! It really seems like I have made some progress and the end seems near! :)

OMG - DH just went to the corner shop and asked me what I wanted (e.g. chocolate!) and I said no thank you! I really am in the zone now! :)

That sounds good....just keep on like this...it seriously doable ;) BUT never forget, it takes time and it is not about eating 6 month less and than going on like before. But for me it seems you are on the rigth track...therefor: keep on going

and please recover befor doing hard exercise and stuff ;)

You are absolutely right! I take solice in the fact that when I have lost weight before, it has stayed off. The weight I am losing now is weight that crept on over a period of 10-15 years, not in a matter of moths after finishing a fad diet or something. I guess my body will naturally lose weight more slowly as I get closer to the goal, so that will allow me to gradually settle into a diet/exercise pattern that is sustainable in the long term. :) Until the next pregnancy that is, because after two I do not hold much hope of not putting on the same amount of weight next time, but it is all worth it! And to be fair, I lost my pg weight in about 3 months, so I do not worry about that bit.

sounds great ;) and you will loose the pg weigth again...do not worry ;)
Do you seriously planning rigth now getting the next child? I would be totaly busy with handeling two children (although we are 3 children and one dog in my family and I am the oldest ;) luckily I have my own flat now and in the week I have silence...it is great ;) )

It's awesome that you're thinking about sustaining this long term. I need to get into that mindset.

Schocobaerchen, if I won the lottery or something I would have another baby fairly soon. Sadly, reality is that I have to go back to work and probably wait until my youngest is in school (4 yr) before having another one. Childcare is really expensive here, so I could not afford to have two in childcare at the same time. I will definitely have more kids though, hopefully two more! :) On the bright side, having to wait means i can devote some time to get my weight back on track so that I am at a better starting point - being overweight when getting pg would mean being the size of a small whale by the end of the third trimester!

Stasia, just think of it this way: do you want to have to diet all over again? Much as I am quite focused this time and finding it ok, I definitely do not want to have to do this ever again, so the weight is staying off!! One of my friend's is a very slim size 8 UK, and sometimes I think it is funny how she gets stressed if she puts on 3 lbs. But let's face it, it is her immediate action to lose those 3 lbs before they become 30 that means that she is still slim! So I intend to keep an eye on myself, making sure my favourite jeans always fit me just right and if not, then just cut out chocolate etc. until they do. :)

I am feeling worse again. Temps up and I have been in bed all day. Managed to eat two slices of toast with jam and an apple, and had lots of orange juice for liquid and vit c. DH is making spaghetti bolognese with salad and garlic bread later, so I will have some of that. I just hope being off my food will not drive my body into starvation mode... Hopefully I will be back on track tomorrow.

I know, the UK seems to be allways really expensive *g* Especially the tution fees for studying...gosh I would like to do my master in London....but WHO can pay that amount of money they want? just crazy...but we will see maybe it works anyway and I can do it...that would be great, I love the British english (and most of my fellow students have this horrible German accent...thats not that much fun talking to them in english ;) )

However...keep on the track you are on the rigth way and you are doing it ;)

Oh,don't get me started on UK tuition fees! I am Norwegian but first came here to study and I am telling you, 7 years at university here, paying my own (overseas rate as we are not part of EU) tuition fees was HARD work! I had two jobs every holiday, working from 4am - noon in Oslo airport and from 2pm-10pm in a nursing home. I considered it a day off if I only worked one of my jobs. And I am still paying off my student loan I had to get to cover living costs. Still, if I had not done it, I would not have met my lovely husband and had my wonderful children (and gotten the education I did, of course ;) ) I have already started saving for my kids' university funds.... I do not want lack of funding to be the limiting factor for them, even if it means making a few sacrifices along the way. Who needs designer clothes???

London is really expensive to live in. I think studying abroad is really great (I also studied in Italy for three years), but if you want to make it more financially feasible you should look at other cities. There are lots of great universities, it just depends on what you want to study. It may be more costly in the short term, but in the long term you will reap the benefits. in addition to the language skills you will naturally gain, I have had comments from Norwegian employers that they prefer to hire people who have studied abroad as they all have a different attitude to life - you know, a bit more adventurous and go get it like.

I know it is seriously expencive living in London, have been there 4 or 5 times ;) But I LOVE the city and they have the London school of Hygiene at which I would love to do my master...we will see what is going to happen ;)

How was your weigth loss today?

LOL, I forgot about the weight loss bit!

I was down another 0.5 lbs - since yesterday, bringing my weekly total up to 3.5 lbs. I guess I could do this in kgs with you, but I always do it in pounds as I have a Facebook group for a handful of friends where we try to encourage each other, so I have to work in pounds for that. We have a "Lose a stone for Easter" challenge (e.g. 14 lbs or 6.35kg) which we started after new year and so far I have lost 6.5 lbs already so I am well on track for that one, LOL.

Official weigh in today and I have lost another 2 lbs!

I know it was more a couple of days ago, but I am glad it levelled out a bit as hopefully this is more sustainable.

Sadly, there is no change since I did my ticker, so I do not get the joy of updating that quite yet, but next Monday I am sure I will!

This week I hope will see my return to full health (I am finally giving in and going to see the dr later) and ideally manage to squeeze in a session or two in the gym whilst I still have my husband here. My stomach has really shrunk this week, so that should make it a bit easier to regulate my portion sizes this week.

I need to come up with some ideas for dinner for the whole family but that will benefit my weight loss. Any good ideas??

congrtas to your weigth loss ;)
what about a bake(or do you call it casserole or suofle? The dictionary provided a whole lot of words for this)? You can put a lot of vegetables in it and it still tastes good ;) I love broccoli bake....I just cook the vegis, and in another jar I melt some butter, put a little flour into it, than I put milk, stock and fat reduced soft cheese in it and cook it for a while. And in the end I put Mie-noodels (thos asiatic kind of pasta....hope you know it?)in a casserole dish, put the broccoli and the sauce over it and then i put it for about 20 minutes in the oven

hope you understand it becaus translating this recepie was seriously hard work for me...I have never talked about cooking in english

Nothing like exploring a new part of a language to get your brain working. I know what you mean though, with the recipe. I make a similar thing with broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, normal pasta and white cheese sauce. I haven't had it for ages, so may try it soon. That is a good idea to use reduced fat soft cheese - I normally use normal cheese so not very diet friendly! Tonight my husband made a stir fry with lots of vegetables, pork, egg noodles and hoi sin sauce. It was very nice!

If it is diet friendly or not depends on the dosage and the portion...rigth? But as I am just used to ligth and reduced things (but I always look at the indigredients and the calories per 100g....industry is not that diet friendly when calling something ligth or reduced or whatever ;) ) as my mother uses them as well and therefor i take it ;) It is the same with cola ligth...I just don't like the "real" coke...for me personaly it is too sweet (other may think different and the ligth is too sweet) and therefor I preffere the ligth thing...not due to dieting, however it migth help not drinking the full sugar coke but I don't know...I never dranke the real one since 10 years or something ;)
