Hi guys!! :seeya:

I'm 24, 85 kg (187 pounds) and I'm hoping to start the Cohen's Clinic next week. I had my first blood test on Monday and eagerly waiting to be able to start! I have struggled with my weight over the course of uni since 2006, due to health issues, busy uni issues and a lack of discipline when it came to terrible food. I'm hoping to change this going into summer over here (I live in New Zealand) and hopefully reign in 2012 feeling much better.

I have tried changing the way I eat before but can never maintain it for long enough to see any recognisable results and therefore lose the motivation to keep going. But with my 24th birthday having been on Monday, I want to be able to change that around and re-learn the healthy habits I had during my childhood and high school.

That's my little speel for the moment, I have started upping my water intake in preparation for next week (I have heard headaches are common in the first week of the Cohen's Diet) but can't wait to be able to properly start!

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you for reading!

Andie...

Hello again little diary,

Found out my programme has been made and sent back (yay! :jump:) so have made an appointment tomorrow to learn about what I need to do to achieve my goals. As my 24th birthday party is this weekend, I have decided to start this on Monday so I can stay commited (alcohol is banned on the Cohen's diet). This also means I can do a grocery shop and plan meals for next week during the weekend. Will take all measurements and weight Sunday night before starting!

Have been drinking a lot more water to try and prepare myself somewhat for the first week on Cohen's. I have heard that you can get some headaches and can feel quite tired in your first week so I have taken some advice and minimised coffee and maximised water for this week.

Anyways, bye for now

Day ONE

I weighed myself first thing this morning as I'm starting the Cohen's Diet today! I'm sitting at 83.5 kg (184 pounds). The diet seems a little restrictive with what you are allowed to eat but I'm sure I can experiment when I get used to it. Tried unsweetened yoghurt for the first time for breakfast, not a big fan haha BUT a big fan of oranges which was my other part of breakfast so yay! Hopefully, the unsweetened yoghurt will grow on me...

Luckily its heading into summer over here so the water drinking is not going to be a big issue, its 11am and I'm just under a litre. I have a massive bottle of water and I'm just sipping away at it through work. Weighed all my meat portions for the week out last night, put them in ziplock bags and froze them. Just realised I completely forgot to take one back out for tonight, woops...ah well, hence why microwaves were invented!

Anyways very very excited that Monday is finally here so I can get started!!! :hurray:

Andie :)

Day FOUR

The first few days have been hard with the gaps in between meals and the limited range of foods but I've started experimenting with recipes from the book they gave me and that has made it a lot more exciting! AND the unsweetened yoghurt is tasting better - big progress...just need to keep it up till Sunday then the motivation from the scales can take it from there :p my consultant has also said that it is easier to stick to after the first five days so fingers crossed she is right!

Off to try a tuna stir fry recipe for lunch!

Andie

Can't wait for first weighing tomorrow! One week in, it is definitely getting a bit easier! I do look less bloated than I was but don't feel particularly lighter yet...ah well, guess the scales and tape measure will tell :jump:need to be very good today and get to sleep earlier (my only downfall this week) and am thinking of starting some light exercise like some pilates or walking. Before I started this, I exercised 3-4 hours a week, but the consultants suggest backing off exercise in the first week or two while your body gets used to it. Fair enough, I have felt pretty drained in the last week (I think not having my cup of coffee in the morning hasn't helped) but that is getting better, so feel some exercise might help me a bit!!

Anyways, excited for tomorrow!

Andie

79.2 kgs!!!!!!! (174.5 pounds!) :party:That is awesome! Also lost a few cms but more weight. Probably a lot of it is water weight but it is promising!:biggrin:

Much more motivation for the week ahead now. Made myself a Thai Beef Salad for dinner and it was delicious

Day TEN (yay I've made it through ten days!!!! :hurray:)

Well, I'm definitely feeling less lethargic!...and hungry! So that is a definite win! Have netball tonight so will have to plan tea and fruit snack around that so I have enough energy to play but also something to boost me afterwards...going to try another new recipe from the provided book, last night I tried fish pizza which involved blending plain tuna and crispbreads together, making that into a pizza base and then topping with veges. I was sceptical but it turned out delicious which was awesome because I am not a big fan of plain tuna but it is definitely cheaper than chicken or steak! Tonights concoction will be oven baked chicken with veges in foil and salad with the remainder vege allowance :drool5:...I am going to be a very happy dieter tonight!

Anyways back to work, can't wait for Monday morning to see if I've come any further through my journey! :auto:

Hi Andie :)

Thanks again for stopping by my own journal with a friendly post :)

I am not very familiar with the Cohen diet, but if it works for you, then keep at it :) Congrats on the 174 and the 10 days of sticking to it! Keep that focus! :D

Can I ask how tall you are, and what's your goal weight? :)

Awesome job on going from 184 to 174! Even if some of it is water weight, it's still great! :)

I'm 5 foot 9 inches or 175 cm tall. My goal weight is somewhere between 60 and 65 kg (132 lbs to 143 lbs), when I get closer I'll work it out based on what my body shape looks like. The last time I was under 150 lbs was about six years ago when I was 17-18 so there are a lot of things that will have changed. At 17 I was a little bit chubby but not particularly worrying...also had never really been introduced to alcohol or takeaways or caffeine (the joys of uni and late nights!!). I'm excited though to see what it all turns out like though ;)

The Cohen's Clinic started in South Africa but since then has gone to the States (I think) but recently Australia and now New Zealand, where I live! It doesn't seem to be advertised all that much, they prefer for people to hear about it through word of mouth which I think is kinda neat. But it is quite strict, so no summer drinks for me but I'm loving experimenting with the recipe book they gave me with ideas of how to combine what you are allowed to eat. Also summer means an amazing range of fruit and since my gran and grandad own an orchid, lots of nectarines and peaches and other yummy fruit :drool5:

Anyways, off to drop my laptop in to get fixed (count this as your vehicle replacement equivalent) as it is pretty hard to type on it at work at the moment with the crtl key stuck and the battery lasting 20 mins...luckily I have a desktop too so don't miss out on anything

Nice to finally talk to you!

Andie

Well, your goal sounds very attainable :) I have no doubt you'll reach it eventually with the determination you seem to have :)

Hah, well I'm sure your laptop repair costs dwarf the typical range of my mechanic's billing statements ;(

That's so cool about your grandparents owning an orchard! One of my co-workers operates one as well and I get free peaches, apples, nectarines, figs, etc, throughout the year! Very yummy indeed - I love peaches! :D

The Cohen diet does sound pretty strict, which I'm afraid of. Completely cutting out things you normally enjoy can make it really difficult to maintain for the rest of your life. Remember, it's a lifestyle change, not a diet :) Diets start and stop, but finding a balance in yourself and food will insure that you life a healthy life without worry of falling back into your old habits.

Anyway, continue to keep us updated with your awesome progress, Andie! :)

So all that previous talk about peaches made me want a pie!

I guess I know what I'm having for desert on Sunday :D

There's a sweet mini apple crumble pie recipe that I totally want now too! I wonder if I could substitute in peaches...they aren't particularly in season over here yet so might stick to apple...Mmmm Sunday night treat here I come! :drool5: The main thing about Cohen's Diet is that it is short term, once you get down to your goal weight, you go through what they call a refeeding process where you bring back in other foods (bread, milk, etc) in portions to see how your body deals with them. And the portion sizes get bigger. And alcohol gets reintroduced :beerchug:So it retrains you how to deal with the healthy way of life after you finish up which I like about it. But you do need to stick to it fairly religiously to get the best results before you reach your goal weight and as I lack a certain amount of drive to keep it up without rules then it works for me

However, I had the worst hit to motivation today haha, was at the mall and Starbucks have just brought out their Christmas range of coffee!!!!! Toffee nut, gingerbread and cranberry white chocolate....oh how I want! Next year...

What day do you weigh yourself on? I do first thing on Monday mornings before I face the week, gives me a little boost (well so far it has given me little boosts haha!)

Well then I'm glad I don't like coffee :)) Those flavors sound delicious!

That sounds cool about the Cohen diet. The end part sounds like maintenance mode, just be careful :)

Stay focused, Andie! Don't let that evil Starbucks getcha! :D

Oh, and I weigh myself every Sunday morning :)

Day FIFTEEN!!!!!!

77.4 kgs! SO....(quick google conversion) 170 pounds! Awesome! Getting my energy back in bucketloads too, so not feeling lethargic all the time no matter what I am doing (which is what I had been told would happen) so looking forward to this week!! There is a little mini cheesecake recipe in my book that I am using as my first incentive treat. I get to make that once I get to 76 kgs (167.5 lbs)!! I LOVE cheesecake so that is awesome that there is a fairly healthy way to make one, also will have a small portion (a muffin tin size)

Yay happy days!

P.S. enjoy the cheesecake... I gain 5lbs just saying the word cheesecake (luckily typing it is ok!) can't have the stuff around! Although maybe if it's a good, healthy recipe then you can share it?
