And here...We...Go!

Well, before I actually start, I should probably give a bit of background information.

My name is Cass. I'm 20 years old.
I'm about 5'4", and currently weigh 180 lbs.
My target weight is 125lbs by the beginning of the summer.

I've been overweight for as long as I can remember. I've thinned out over the years, but I haven't quite thinned out completely.

I've actually just started the OptiFast800 program yesterday, and have a schedule that looks a little something like this:

10:00 am -- Shake I
12:30 pm -- Shake II
3:00 pm -- Shake III
5:30 pm -- Shake IV
7:30 -- cup of fruit or sugar-free jello
9:30 -- Shake V

My doctor says I can have the sugar-free jello (5-10 cals a cup) if I'm feeling hungry, just for this week.

As for water, the doc recommended 32 fl oz at the very least. I have a small jug that holds that much, and I, so far, have ended up finishing it twice in a day.

With that, she wants me to interval train on the treadmill, too.
Luckily, I'm used to a lot of high-activity because I used to be in my high school's color guard. :) I've started myself at 20 minutes: walk a minute, jog a minute, etc.
I'm looking to increase the time by five minutes every day or two.

It's been sort of hard so far, especially because the food my mom cooks smells so good! But I'm ready to take this challenge head-on.

There'll probably a lot of whining about wanting real foods in this diary. :p

Day four of the Optifast800. I've never wanted to eat so many things in my life. Last night, when I went to WalMart with a friend, we ended up cutting through the food aisles, and I actually found myself more interested in checking labels and gravitating toward healthier things.(I used to just go for whatever looked really good!) Of course, I didn't buy any of it. :p

Today isn't as bad as the others. I'm finding myself not so obsessed with food anymore.
I'm on the same regimen as I posted last, and I'm drinking about 64 fl oz of water a day.

Tonight, I'm on the treadmill for interval training for 25 minutes, and pushing to 30 minutes tomorrow morning.

I'm not jumping on the scale anymore until the weigh-in with the doc (on Wednesday). It'll be hard not to hop on it and see how I'm doing, but I'd like to see if I can surprise myself. I'm at 178 lbs now. :D

I'm going to have to rearrange this schedule because I'm a college student and it's going to conflict with my classes, but I'm willing to wake up early enough to get my treadmilling done in the morning. The first week of doing that is going to, quite frankly, SUCK, but I know people who do it and they've grown to love starting their days with a bit of a jog.

Hi! :)
I just wanted to tell you you're doing really good! I'm 21 and I have a very similar problem going on with classes and studying and all that stuff but we can do it! And as you said in your post, once you get used to training in the morning, you will want and feel like doing it when you get up!
I've got to go (reading to do for school)!
:seeya:

First day of school today. I'm ready to go back on winter vacation LOL.
I'm sick of sugary, sweet things. The shakes are sweet, the jello is sweet, the fruit is sweet...I'm going to ask the doc about alternatives to the fruits.

School kind of helped me take my mind off of food...While I was in class. Not while I was sitting around on campus with the vending machines. I got off the treadmill about 45 minutes ago, because I kind of slept through my alarm this morning. (Yeah. Ouch. It's okay, because my first class was at 12:30, so I wasn't late for it. )

30 minutes today, still interval training. It's a lot easier when you're watching a movie, no doubt. It helps if it's a move that you haven't watched yet. When I'm doing the fast interval, I get a little motion sick sometimes, but boy does it make the running go faster (time-wise, not speed-wise)!

I think I'll be able to work swimming in on Mondays and Wednesdays at the school's pool. I don't want to kill my knees on the treadmill.

Hey girl! :)
Wow you began school today...I've been back to school since the 11th of January! Yay for training today and for not being late to your class too! :)
I like the idea of watching a movie while doing your training and I hope it works well.
Take care!

Hey first, I want to say you are doing great but my question is why do you feel you couldn't lose the weight with real food? If you want to keep the weight off, you are going to have to learn how to eat real food too. Are you planning to just ween yourself off this plan or cut cold turkey?

(FYI: I absolutely hate these plans and feel they aren't helpful unless your doctor has placed you on a liquid diet for being massively overweight. You aren't at that point in my opinion. It is, however, just my opinion in this.)

How about an alternative to the jello instead. I just graduated from uni, and there was a Target right next to my campus and they sold good sized bags of mixed vegetables for just $1-2 each in the frozen food section. Cheap, and only takes a minute to heat up the microwave. Perfect for students I thought..I bet they have something like that at Walmart too

Good job so far by the way, fitting jogging and stuff into your schedule can be hard when you're a student, I always chose to do it in the mornings too because I'd be tired and lazy at night.

Thanks! I used to watch movies all the time, but I used to watch movies I've already seen. It's far more effective with new movies!

It's not that I don't think I could have lost the weight with real food. It's just that I went to the doc for some help, and she suggested doing this program. She's going to start helping me ween myself off of the plan when I see her tomorrow...Hopefully.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE vegetables right now. Anything other than the freaking fruit. :| I'll investigate Target and WalMart tomorrow, since I have both around.

And thanks! But so far I haven't gotten it in during the morning because I'm still trying to adjust my sleep schedule. (AKA, I'm tired and lazy in the morning.)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ran into the biggest school crisis ever today. I need a class for a pre-req to get into the transfer's school's communications program, but that class that I need isn't offered over the summer, and conflicts with the class that I currently NEED to get the degree I'm working on now. Anyway, that's a mess. Stressed already, and it's only the second day of the semester.

Same schedule. I haven't taken my run yet, since I spent all day trying to sort things out, and I had classes from 9:30 until 5:00 before all the running around.

I know I said I was going to wait for the weigh-in at the doc's, but I'm concerned about a weight GAIN? Not a lot of weight, but I WAS at 178, and I'm back up at 181? I'll have a looksee tomorrow morning to see if it's just a fluctuation. I mean, I'm feeling pretty fantastic [aside from all of that school garbage], since I've been exercising all week. :)

My cravings have died out, too, which is fantastic.

Going to see the doc tomorrow! I'll write any news when I get home from her office.

Woah, long time no update. This is a mixture of laptop problems (My laptop recently suffered a virus-induced Vista Black Screen of Death, and I had to basically reset the entire system.) and a crazy school schedule. (I'm graduating with an associate's in May!)

Anyway, I recently had actual FOOD added to my eating agenda.

9:30 -- Shake I
11:30/12 -- 1 and 1/2 cups berries + sugar free jello cup
2:30 -- Shake II
5:30 -- 1/2 cup fruit + 10 nuts
7:30 -- 4 oz broiled fish + 1/2 a plate of sauteed veggies (I actually just end up broiling the veggies with the fish)
9:30 -- Shake III

I interval train for 35-40 minutes on the treadmill at LEAST 5 times a week.

This past week I've been feeling like hell because mother nature gave me her monthly gift to women, and the treadmill hasn't been able to happen as much as I want it to without me feeling like I'm going to die, but as soon as it's over, I'll be back on a normal exercise schedule.

I haven't updated my weightloss ticker yet, but I'm at 167 lbs now.
13 pounds dropped so far! :) I've noticed it in my arms and my face the most so far, and some pairs of pants that were a little bit snug are fitting a bit better.

Mehhhhh for the monthly gift.
But congradulations on the weight loss and your clothes fitting better! :)

Holy update, Batman!

So let me tell you, my life's been insane. I got my associate's degree in modern language, I'm transferring to another school, I started working, and I'm struggling with this weight loss business!

So I'm at about 155 lbs now. I really wanted to hit my goal right now, but time wasn't allowing as much exercise as I would have liked.
My regular routine involves hitting up the treadmill for 45 minutes, as much as I can, which ends up being 5-6 days a week, and I've also started some resistance training with this Total Body Gym thing my parents have in the basement (You basically work with your own body weight) for about 20-25 minutes.

This is absolutely DRAINING, as I work outside as a camp counselor! I'm running around with kids in 90 degree weather, and by the time I get home, I want to shower and die in my bed until I have to wake up and do it all over again. I'm having a VERY hard time keeping up with the regular workout routine due to this.

Also, I've been losing my hair! Ugh. It's not coming out in clumps or anything, but it has thinned SIGNIFICANTLY. The doc says it happens sometimes, especially when people go on diets/lose weight too fast. I don't think I've lost weight too fast, and my diet's pretty well-balanced. She added some dairy to the mix to help me out, and also prescribed a multivitamin Strovite, for me. I miss my hair!!!! D:<

Here's what the diet looks like:

9:30 -- Shake I
11:30/12 -- 1 and 1/2 cup fruit, Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt ( 80 cals)
2:30/3 -- Shake II
5:00 -- 10 nuts, 1/2 cup fruit
7:00 -- 4 oz fish or chicken, half plate of veggies, optional 1/4 cup of rice/pasta
9:00 -- Sugar free jello, low fat string cheese

Also, I've reset my goal, since I've kind of failed hitting my original goal (though at the same time succeeded because I lost weight and KEPT IT OFF), for October.
