Amy's weight loss diary

Ha! We'll see. It's a very long way.

In other news, my hypoglycaemia has been horrible today. I haven't done as much about it as I probably should, but I realised at an inopportune moment- on the bus, shouldn't eat there- and figured I'd just get home and have something better. I'm not feeling great right now, but... I'm at home. Need to think about dinner (going out is tomorrow night), and may need to go shopping for supplies. But not when I'm feeling faint.

amy, in these situations its better to eat something wee until youre better which is why ive suggested the glucose tablets they work for an hour, hour and a half are low in calories but do the job until you get some proper protein.

Hope that helps - wish i could practice what i preach sometimes.

Like i said to you once before, hypoglycemia is a sucky condition, and its so hard to manage sometimes, particularly when youre trying to loose weight, but fortunately loosing weight helps it. what doesnt help it is anxiety, menstruation or PMS (without me prying) or generally worrying and waiting for a hypo coming along. (or so my doc tells me) i have GAD & if i dont stay calm it worsens.

My doc told me taking vitamin b6 (pyridoxine (UK)) helps with the PMS which ultimately lessens the hypo attacks

Hope that helps
x

Oh no, today it's been more of a constant thing, which is actually really annoying. I get very temporary relief then almost immediately back to feeling crappy. The only sizeable reprieve I've had is most of the time I was out today- I realised within 20 minutes of being home that my blood sugar was beginning to drop again, and I was on the bus where you're not supposed to eat, so I just toughed it out (I immediately had a pear when I got home). I know I'm meant to eat when that sort of thing happens, but it's hard to know what happens if I don't really stop feeling like that.

I had to buy some tights (I don't wear them often) to go out in my little black dress tomorrow night, and I had a problem I haven't had in a long time. I had an awful lot of trouble finding a small pair. :D

Hi amy, This morning I went to collect the results of blood tests.

as usual, my glucose level is below the minimum.

We are united in our hypoglycemia:hat:

Urgh, I'm sorry to hear that.

I've never actually been tested for it, I've just spoken to quite a few people who do have it and who've said that what I have sounds like what they have. I call it hypoglycaemia for convenience's sake- although I do seem to be able to treat it in the same way as other people with hypoglycaemia.

Not joining the July challenge as I'm not sure how often I'll be able to weigh myself or what my diet will be doing while I'm in Australia. Hopefully I'll be reasonably close to goal by the time August rolls around and I get back.

Going out for dinner tonight, so today's calorie total will be what I've eaten before 7pm (when my boyfriend comes and picks me up).

I just looked up the place where my boyfriend's taking me out to eat tonight.

He told me it'd be a little more expensive that the places we'd normally go.

No freaking kidding. It's more like twice as expensive. :svengo:

Nice to hear you're having a night out with your bf!Hope you have fun!
Amy how long are you leaving for?what does your bf say?i mean he's probably sad you're leaving

I'm sure it'll be great :) My boyfriend really knows how to pick nice places to eat.

I'm going for six weeks- from the beginning of July to mid August. My boyfriend's known all along. He's not happy (in fact, I'm sure he's going to be miserable while I'm away), but it's part of the deal dating someone who's not from this country (which I'm not- I'm Australian).

Hi Amy!

Wow, you sure are committed to your diet. That looks like a lot of work! But it looks like it's been paying off so far for you :). I love Australians by the way, I went to Australia and New Zealand two summers ago and I think they're great. You guys are so much fun and I love the way you guys say 'yeah' or 'yah'. I don't know why but I just like it :p.

Good luck with your trip. I know being away from my girlfriend has caused a bit of troubles for us. Just make sure you let him know how special he is to you everyday and things will be great.

Take care

You had trouble finding a SMALL! (oops had to delete my many exclamation marks there with that one... know you aren't a fan of that kind of business, haha) Crazy! :) That is awesome! I still have to find tights that are as large as possible, though mainly for my height. The XLs or bigger can be stretched a lot, so that's better. Actually, to just continue to increase my self-esteem, the pregnancy tights in the XL are the best. Apparently you like gain about a foot in the length of your legs when you are pregnant. ;)

don't think about the money tonight! He just wants to spoil you rotten, which is gorgeous. So glad you are going, and you don't seem to be toooooo worried about it all, like you were last time.

Have a great time! And I want pics! Oh... are you going to be using a ribbon sash Mit deine kleid? Oder... (dropping in a little german to keep you nimble;))

Thanks :) It's not that much work, to be honest, and it gets me the results I want so I'm happy to run with it. Although you say I'm committed to my diet just at a point where I'm about to go and eat something that's completely not on the diet plan!

I don't think my boyfriend and I will be able to be in contact every day, to be honest. But I don't see any reason why it would threaten our relationship- we're getting better every day.

Thanks Joh :) I'm not going to think too much about the money, but... there are things on that menu that cost what I spend a week in groceries. I can't let him pay all of that. (Most? Sure. He wouldn't have it any other way. But all? Nope)

I'm not sure how interesting headless pics would be- it's the same black dress you've already seen!

Ich trage keine Schaerpe mit dem Kleid. Mein Freund glaubt, dass das Kleid besser aussieht*, ohne Zubehoer.

* I can't remember the rule with seperable verbs in dass clauses. I know they go to the end, and I think they unseparate like in an infinitive? (and that was a slightly more complicated structure, I may have screwed that up. And yes, I have a dictionary!)

Anyway, partial food diary.

Teppanyaki was amazing. I'm not sure the chef we had was the greatest show man on offer, but it was still a lot of fun to watch him cook, and the food was incredible. I went the whole hog- hey, why not (and as to the money thing, I gave my boyfriend what I could normally afford to spend on a night out).

They put bibs on us. It was hilarious.

I had the most expensive thing on their set menu- starter (some sort of meat- duck or chicken- with an amazing sauce on it, a spring roll, some sushi, and assorted vegetables) a salad (mostly like a coleslaw, in an oniony creamy dressing), and miso soup before the main event. Cooked in front of us were egg and vegetable fried rice, some fried vegetables, salmon, prawn and scallops, lamb and beef (and some garlic to stir all through it). The fried rice was to die for, and that wasn't anywhere near as good as the meat- incredibly flavoursome and tender (particularly the beef and lamb, which I had medium-rare). I then had ice cream (a small sundae- chocolate, vanilla, and some sort of sorbet- maybe mango?- with whipped cream and some sort of topping). I had two tall thin glasses of lemonade, two of those little cups of sake, and two cups of Japanese green tea with it.

How many calories? Don't know. Don't care.

My boyfriend couldn't get over how good I looked, and we had some random (if very clearly drunk/ high/ otherwise out of it) woman stop us to tell us how wonderful we looked, what a great couple we look, and particularly comment on my hair and how it falls (she used "amazing", I would have used "wicked witch of the west"!).

Some photos of cooking (I'll spare the ones of the food on my plate). Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough with the camera to catch him juggling the eggs. (The girl I've cut out of the pictures- don't know her, she was just at the table we were at)

It was a lot of food, but I'm not uncomfortably full. Was amazing food though, and I can see how they can justify those sort of prices (even without the theatrics of cooking it in front of you, frankly).

I just realised I'm leaving in two days and I have a crazy amount of perishable stuff in my fridge. Using up perishables is going to be a competing factor with calorie counting at the moment. (I've made my porridge with milk this morning, rather than water, for example, which will drive the calories up by about 100)

Are there any neighbors or friends nearby that you could make food for? That way you don't have to eat all of the extra calories in such a short amount of time.

That's a good idea. I might do some baking, if I pick the right ingredients that'll use the milk up. (There are things I can give away- and indeed one of my final tasks before I go will be to help my boyfriend raid my fridge- but skim milk and low fat natural yoghurt probably aren't among them, so I'll have to use them as best I'm able. I don't plan to completely blow the calories, just adjust my diet a bit so it's a bit more... milky)

Wow your night out sounds fantastic! I'm going to hunt down a tepinyaki restaurant in Zurich for sure! And I bet you guys DID look sensational, and that your hair IS amazing, and that you ARE a great couple. :)
