Amy's weight loss diary

Thanks :D

There is such a thing as milk tea, which is cold, but it's a different thing entirely (and Asian/ Oriental, so perhaps less likely you had it when you were that young, depending on the degree of cultural influence in the UK at the time). The one I'm talking about is more like Lipton ice tea, which you can buy in bottles here (I think in Sainsbury's and Waitrose) but is painfully expensive (and I'm not sure you can get the diet version here either). This drink isn't meant to have milk in it, and I wouldn't recommend adding it (you can try, I don't know what the squash would do to it... but it just seems odd to me). It's usually sweetened (with sugar), but diluting it is meant to reduce/ eliminate the need for that. I think peach squash would work (Lipton sell a ice tea with peach), I just prefer lemon (I think citrus is more refreshing). I use Robinson's no sugar added squash to make mine.

i looked for pepermin but all i see is mint tea!i dont know if its the same!im going to make some now, belive me i have never tried before.i am gonna put some sweetener though in!

It should be the same thing. Use plain black tea for the main part (about 5-6 servings for 1.5 litres of water), plus a mint teabag. Do you have squash in Greece? (I know they don't have it in America)

How long are you home for? I hope you really enjoy it! Wow, leaving a UK 'Heat Wave' and heading back to the freezing Australian winter... probably about the same temperature! hahaha. :)

I'm going back for six weeks, Joh. And yeah, it's about 5 degrees difference. I find both sides hilarious- the Sydneysiders bitching and moaning and warning me I'll need hat scarf and gloves for the horrible insufferable 15 degree weather, and the Brits bitching and moaning and acting like it's 45 (it's more like 25, and only in the last couple of days).

Carrie, you should definitely give it a go.

Jasper, sorry, I wasn't clear- yes, squash can mean pumpkin, but in England it refers to this stuff: You add water to it to make (usually) a fruit flavoured drink. It's called cordial in Australia, if that means anything to you.

In other news, I've been out buying traditional English sweets. I must have looked like such a glutton! I haven't eaten any of them- and I don't intend to- but I had a hypoglycaemic episode while I was out. I forgot to bring my Special K bars with me. So I bought some more, and I ate one. Don't feel entirely better, but I'm home now and it's dinner time. Didn't get anywhere near as sick as I would even normally worry about, just enough to alert me to the fact I should probably find food.

It's as long as I can manage to go. My parents want it that way. I'm sure I'll be thoroughly sick of them by the time I leave again :)

And thanks :) It sort of feels like a waste of calories- not really worth 90 calories for something so small- but if I think about it a bit more rationally, if I'd gotten sicker as quickly as I sometimes can do, preventing that state is worth a heck of a lot more than 90 calories, no matter what I eat.

Speaking of calories, I've had under 1200 after dinner today, even including that bar. What? I know I have dessert pretty much every night, but... tonight I need dessert. :reddevil: :biggrinjester:

My boyfriend and I are going out for teppanyaki on Wednesday. We'll have been together ten months that evening, and it'll be our last evening out before I leave for Australia, so it'll be a very special evening. Plus we're both dressing up :D I'm going to take my little black dress out for a spin.

I've had a big dessert tonight, and now I'm going through the day's shopping. I'm not that bothered by the English sweets- they're for other people, I'm not going to touch them. But... I bought something that is sort of hard to come by here, is much loved in Australia, and... I love it too.

Darrel Lea licorice. I must not open it. Bad. Too high calorie. Can't even think about it right now.

My protein is seriously low at the moment. Glad I'm not lifting at the moment or else I'd have to overhaul everything, and that'd be a pain. (I plan to get back into serious working out when I get back from Australia- I plan to do a lot of exercise in Australia but gym stuff is dependent on factors outside my control)

I have a solution for my cooking woes. I'm going to cook several meals for a family. And give the leftovers to my boyfriend. To keep him away from the goddamn pub and kebab shop (it's not the alcohol that bothers me- he doesn't drink. It's the horrible food).

Oh cool - what a good girlfriend you are! :)

mmmm Darrel Lea.... I miss those little bo peeps - those boiled lollies... my mum would buy them for us probably once a year, and they were so special!

I've never been to teppinyaki - it's japanese food made in front of you where they throw it to you, and you have to try and catch it in your bowl, right? Or is that only in the movies? Good for the diet if you have bad hand-eye co-ordination! haha

Hey, it suits me even more than it suits him- I don't have to be bored with my food or rely on ready meals. And I know at least for a little while he won't slip into his old bachelor ways (although he is going to a friend's house the day after I leave, and I've eaten her cooking- it's bloody fantastic, but I'm sure it's monstrous on the calorie front).

It's surprising that you can get Darrel Lea licorice here- used to be able to get strawberry flavour, but I haven't seen it for awhile. They have ingredients on the back in German, so you may have more luck there.

I think that's the idea, yes, although it depends on which specific one he takes me to (I don't know that, all I know is it's teppanyaki, in town, and it's a little on the expensive side- because he wanted a place where we wouldn't look completely silly all dressed up). My eye hand coordination is ok- eye-face not so much!

In other news, I now love Sainsbury's Blackberry and Blueberry flavoured sparkling water. (3 calories/ 100ml) This is the kind of thing I usually buy when I'm out and desperate for a drink. Strangely enough, it's much nicer coming out of the fridge.

And now for a musical interlude. I've always loved this song:

And for a cultural experience, the song that's been drifting around in my head for a couple of weeks:

I love that song too! And the classic ozzie one is so feelgood. I've got a little grin on my face after listening to them :)

I'm so sad for you that you won't be seeing your bf for a while, but happy you are going to see your family. Maybe next time he can come with you.

Have fun tonight!
