Amy's weight loss diary

Ha. I wasn't very happy with it as I messed up those patties. I'm going to bake them next time (not sure what I'm going to do with the leftovers- probably eat them in smaller portions) to try to cut down on the oil.

Trying to decide whether I should go to the gym today. I have two weeks of membership left (I'd renew, but I go to Australia in a month)... but I'm really very tired as I haven't been sleeping properly. Decisions, decisions.

I've put on my gym gear (I put my day clothes over the top so I don't have to change when I get there) and I feel marginally better just thinking about wanting to go. Also, I had to tighten the straps on my sports bra, which is always a boost :D

I'm going to go and see how I feel, but not push it too hard, perhaps bump my weights back down so I don't injure myself. And take my swimmers in case I feel like an amble up the pool (or some time in the sauna)

Hehe, putting on the gym clothes is the first step to going to the gym! ... And I'm always a little unsure how to count oil that's probably not stirred into the food. Obviously it adds some, but I'm not licking the pan to get the oil out, so not all of it! ... Although it seems like butter sticks more to the food and less of it stays in the pan. ... Which may be why I use the oil sprays a lot more!

I went to the gym, worked out for longer than I thought I would/ worked harder than I expected to (I planned to take it easy, honest...) and am feeling much better for it. Left my hairbrush at home by mistake so no pool time for me.

Did (with 5kg where applicable unless otherwise stated):
3x12 squats (against the wall to make it easier on my knees, with exercise ball between me and the wall and feet slightly wider to make it harder on my thighs- gym manager's suggestion); 3x12 hamstring raises (my range of motion has increased out of sight with these, I'm nearly touching my toes, which is something I've never been able to do before. Although that may be a problem); 3x12 standing calf raises (still hate this exercise); 3x12 (each side) lying hip abductions; 3x12 (each side- no weights) side lunges; 3 sets of 30 second planks (side-front-other side-front). Then 3x12 bench presses, 3x12 seated cable rows (on 3, 4 was quite hard- not sure what that is in kilograms), 3x12 bicep curls, 3x12 tricep kickbacks, 3x8 "girly" pushups (I find these very challenging/ painful), and 3x12 lateral raises (with 3kg weights).

Then cardio- 20 min crosstrainer (on a difficult hill setting, resistance 8 out of a posible 20, I usually do resistance 7), 15 min stepper (easy hill setting, resistance 4 for half of it and 3 for other half, I usually do 4, not sure what it's out of but 4 is default), and 10 min treadmill incorporating brisk walking, approx 3 min running at 10km/ hour (I bumped the safety thing and had to ramp up the speed again halfway through) and cooldown.

Have to think about what to do when my gym membership expires. I have some prices to mull over now, I talked to the manager.

Also, what the hell do people think sometimes? I was on the cross trainer when some guy (who'd been bouncing on an exercise ball, which was weird in and of itself) took off his shirt and started walking up and down the length of the gym, slapping and rubbing his belly. He did at least 3 laps before putting his shirt back on, did 5 min walking on the treadmill, sat on the seated row (thank heavens I was done with that :puke: ) took his shirt off and wiped himself down. Yes, he was rather large. That has almost nothing to do with why that creeped me the f*** out (if he'd been thin/ ripped, it would've been just as wrong, just... I dunno, nicer looking? So sue me, I can be a little bit shallow when judging strangers)

No, that dude is definitely weird. I probably thought that everyone would think he had just had some huge workout. Some guys can be really strange.

Yeah... I do try not to judge though... as long as they're not in my face. At least they're coming. Just... really? And can they hike their pants up a little? I really don't need to see the repairman's crack :D

Jeanette, my feeling on the matter is "if in doubt, count it". I think most of it was absorbed, truth be known.

Robin (Robyn? I'm sorry, I forget the spelling), I'm glad you think it was weird too. I was a bit worried I was being more judgmental because of his size.

I need to get more red meat into my diet. So I'm looking at low calorie beef recipes. They're all asking for rump or sirloin steak. Which I don't think I can afford.

Yes, of course, thank you :) I'll definitely make some mince dishes, mince is something I think is reasonably priced.

This made me chuckle :) I have some crazy guys like that at my gym too... some that wear so little they might as well walk around naked. I just wonder what goes through their minds before they leave their house?

"oh yes, if I flex this way I can ensure both nipples pop out the sides of my COMPLETE SIDELESS SHIRT..."

I don't get it... but at least it provides a little bit of entertainment :)

I've just... never seen anything like it. And the crazy thing was, he looked insecure, like he didn't want to be there. Surely the thing to do when insecure is not to draw attention to yourself like that? (I was almost tempted to go and ask the manager whether that was acceptable behaviour. It was making me incredibly uncomfortable)

lol, every gym has its crazies, a couple of days ago there was a bloke at my gym doing pelvic thrusts in front of the mirror.

It was funny in retrospect, but at the time there weren't many people in the gym and I didn't know what he was going to do or if it'd involve me. And I get a bit thrown when people do things outside of what I would've predicted (I think it's the Asperger's).

Pelvic thrusts? Wow, that is weird (and potentially something that would disturb me to the point of upsetting me). The only weird thing I've seen in my gym apart from that episode is guys grunting horribly when they lift weights (I think most of them do it for the attention- they look like they're lifting 7.5-10kg. Dude, I'm standing here lifting 5, you do not impress me), and the ones who persist in staring at me/ attempting to engage in awkward hitting on type conversation even after they've seen me with what is completely obviously my boyfriend (but that's just annoying- get on with it or get off the equipment/ GTFO).

I'm really tired at the moment, more so than usual. The weight training was really good, and I'm hoping it'll send me into a deep, much needed slumber tonight.

Anyway, here's my food for the day.

I'm afraid I'm gaining weight. I don't know why- I'm doing everything right. But I stepped on the scales this morning and... I'm not going to tell anyone the number, it's too depressing.

It's not official until Saturday, but if I'm over 67kg, how can I get down to 66 in just a couple of days? :banghead: :nopity:

It's ok, Carrie- whichever way he meant it, I can afford mince (although I see it's gone up a pound since last time I bought it, humph). It's £6.60 a kilo, or £6 if I get it on special offer (it was £5 on offer). Similar price to chicken. The steak I've been looking at has been £15-£25 a kilogram- and I'm sorry, but that's silly money.
