AmbaLove is Tracking the Journey!

I found a pair of old shoes in the closet, not real good for working out (skating shoes), but beggars can't be chosers, so they'll do til the end of the month.

My fingernails are driving me beserk. How can anyone stand to NOT bite them? It's beyond me.

Also, I've had a dull ache in my head for 3 days. I want it to go AWAY.

So, that's all, I think.

Glad you liked the homemade sorbet Amba.

Good improvisation with the shoe!

Hope you're headache is better by the time you read this.

Nope, headache is still hanging around, unfortunately. I have tried ibuprofen, tylenol, excedrin and back-quell. Still here.

I think I may know the issue, but am hoping I am wrong. I got new class pets last week. Two darling 6 week old guinea pigs. They stay at school during the week, and come home with me on weekends. Since the kids were out friday, I brought them home thursday...the time my headache started. They are in my computer room, which is considerable smaller than my classroom. I know I am not allergic to the pigs themselves...but I am starting to think I may be allergic to the Timothy Hay they eat to wear their teeth down. I think maybe having the hay contained in such a small room, and spending a considerable amount of time in the room has done this.

I hope I'm wrong. If my headache goes away when I go back to school, and returns next weekend, I guess I'll know. In that case, I am not sure what I will do.

Oh God... I used to bite my nails since I was a kid until just rather recently. I used to always gnaw on them, but after some time thinking about it, I realized, "Crap. If I can lose weight, then I sure as hell can stop this damn filthy nail biting habit." Today my nails are mistaken for acrylics. Tah Dah! haha Hope you start feeling better in the day, honey.

Have you been cutting your nails, or trying to let them grow?

I don't bite mine, but I can't stand letting them grow. They are always cut down short.

I hope the headache goes away!!!

the panty thing was hilarious..... i hope my kids dont say stuff like that!!!lol As for the shoes.....what about super glue? You must have been using those shoes like crazy to get them to break....lol Wish ,ine would fall apart from frequent use!!!
congrats on the weight loss!!

Rena

Haha! I agree with Sheryl and thought the same thing she did when I read this. You won't have to worry about your kids talking about your panties, more like your lack of them. "My mommy runs around the house naked." :smilielol5:

Amber--glad you've got a shoe improvisation until the end of the month. I hope the headache goes away.

The thought of biting my nails turns my stomach..lol. And Tyly, it drives me nuts if a nail breaks off and I have to cut it short. Mine aren't as long as Sheryl's, but they are long enough to be useful..lol.

hey...i wanted to stop by and say hey.... I have had the worse headach as well..i think mine is from my eating habits have changed..not so sure though..hope it gets better!!Hope u have a good week!

I am TRYING to let the nails grow, but keep having to file down to avoid biting off.

I went to the dietician today and only lost 6/10ths of a danged pound. I am a bit peeved about that!

My headache got bad last night (like migraine, throwing up bad) so I am not sure it is the hay. It is better today, but I feel a lot of residual tension in my neck and back.

Amber, thanks for coming by! (And great name, by the way!)

Hi sweetie, sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well. I know you're upset about the 6/10th of a pound, but I say congrats cuz its more than I've lost lately .

Take good care :).

Your headache sounds like a killer. :ack2: I hope it goes away soon.

Congrats on -.6lbs!! It's a lot better than gaining that amount. :hurray:

I've made a decision. A HARD one.

As of February 1, I will be dairy free for 4 weeks.

No milk, no ice cream (scary!), NO CHEESE (a fate worse than death) and no processed foods with dairy products added to them.

I have CONSTANT sinus issues, and excema that developed within the last 6 months. My research indicates milk sensitivities play a part in both of those conditions.

The best way to find out is an elimination diet. I figured February is a good month (short!) to try it out.

Cheese will be the hardest thing...I am addicted to Mexican food, and sorry, but an enchilada without cheese is not a real enchilada.

I've toyed with this idea for a LONG time, and I really think it is something I have to do. I'll be sharing my results here. I will need a lot of support. For me, giving up dairy will be harder than dieting.

Oh, girl--you have my sympathy regarding the dairy issue. I love my dairy, too, so I would hate to give it up. I hope it works for you, though. :)

Have a great weekend!

My DD was allergic to cow's milk when she was a baby, so I was dairy-free to clear up her eczema.

Earth's Balance margarine (actually "Earth Balance® Margarine Natural Buttery Spread") is an amazing butter substitute, if you like butter. Good enough to eat on "buttered" noodles, and I'm a total butter snob.

I never did find any decent cheese substitute. Or milk. Or ice cream. (Soy products taste nasty to me. Some people like them; I didn't.)

For some stuff, coconut milk is a great substitute, but it's very high-fat, calorie-dense and diet-unfriendly. If you need a treat, though, you can make instant pudding mix with coconut milk (it won't set with rice milk or soy milk, but will with coconut). Good flavor combinations are chocolate, banana, vanilla. Banana or vanilla made with coconut milk, with a can of drained crushed pineapple, a can of drained mandarin oranges, and a sliced banana or two is really, really, reallly good.

If you like pina colada flavor, a can of crushed pineapple, a can of coconut milk, some optional fresh lime juice, a little brown sugar and a generous helping of rum put through the ice cream machine (or frozen and stirred, frozen and stirred) is better than ice cream. :)

Baked goods tend to have a lot of hidden dairy. At one point, I was dairy-free and wheat-free, and honestly didn't find that any harder than doing either separately.

I have considered doing wheat (gluten) free also...I did a Gluten free-casein free diet in college for a couple months during a summer where I nannied for an autistic boy and his brother. GFCF diets are very helpful for autistic individuals, and since I was already preparing food for him that way, it was just easier for us all to eat the same thing.

I will admit, I lost weight and felt healthier when I was on the GFCF diet.

I know about the hidden dairy dangers, for sure! They put dairy in a LOT of things you would think are fine.

I also say I am "addicted" to cheese...leading me to truly believe that is the problem.

Most individuals with casein sensitivities are "addicted" in a way. Casein "drugs" their brain. They feel cravings for it. They have actual withdrawal effects while eliminating it. And then, the cloud lifts! They feel better, they think better. And afterwards, they get sick when they consume dairy, even in small doses.

Gluten is the same way.

I half want this to work, as if it did, it would solve my pain-in-the-neck sinus problems and itchy, disgusting looking excema.

I half want it not to work, so that I can continue a life with cheese in it!

I have been fortunate so far that the excema is only on my legs and easily hidden. However, medical treatments have not helped it a bit.

I had a soda today, which is a rare occurance in my life. I don't know why I bothered. Now my mouth feels gross and I have hiccups every 30 minutes.

Happens everytime, yet every couple months I feel like I "need" a dr.pepper. I always regret it.

Its like an unfulfilling one night stand with the ex. Comfortable, familiar and totally not worth it.

Hi Amber

Congratulations - I have just noticed that you are in second place on the challenge - not just of the blue team but across all the teams. You are doing so well.

We all have weeks when we dont lose as much weight as we would like to lose. I only lost 0.6 pounds in week 1 of the current challenge. Any loss brings us that much nearer to goal and is a positive step.

Maybe you should think of stopping nail-biting as a two stage task. For the first couple of months - plan on keeping the nails cut short and just getting out of the habit of nibbling - then afterwards let them grow a little longer and see if you find it easier to resist after breaking the initial habit.

I am sorry to hear of the headaches, sinus problems and excema.

Giving up dairy sounds difficult. I axed cheese from my diet a number of months ago because I was putting on weight every time I ate it. That is hard if I see someone else eating cheese. I would find stopping drinking milk very difficult. I hope that you have convinced hubby that he wants to stop eating cheese with you - I am sure that will make it go a bit easier for you.

Take care
Love
Margaret

My husband is willing to give up dairy...except the cheese on pizza! But we only get pizza once every couple months, so its not too bad. He can get it and I just won't eat it. (I know it sounds weird, but pizza has never been a food I really liked.)

James orders pizza about once a month, and I avoid it too.

Good luck with the no dairy! You are a MUCH stronger person than me! :)

Hey !

You may or may not remember me, but I'm BACK ! My old username was still.hurting.
I decided to say hi and ask you how you were doing, and ask about your progress
since theres no way i'll be able to catch up on your journal, haha. :)

It's been a while! I missed this place, but college is suffocating me, lol
