am i wasting my time?

Im just wondering i read in the article to build muscle i have to eat a lot, well the problem is im not eating a lot does it mean im not gonna build muscle?Am i wasting my time in the gym doing exercise and not eating a lot? Is that really true that we need morea calories to build muscle? How come the prisoners is too buff even though they dont eat a lot.Pls. help.

The main reason why im eating less is to have 6 pack.

My weight 155 <-------- is that too skinny?
Height 5'9

I would start eating lots of chicken, egg, brown rice, etc and keep doing to the gym.
Eat lots and work hard in the gym and you will bulk up.

Yeah, you need to eat more calories than you burn up during the course of the day to be able to gain lean muscle mass. That way the extra calories you consume will go towards your muscle growth.

Tim.

P.S. - Whats brown rice have to do with bulking up? I eat abit of it before i go to the gym.

I didn't mean brown rice bulks you up, I meant Chicken, egg and rice as a meal to bulk up. Chicken and egg for protein and brown rice to fill you up.

the rice also provides carbs for keeping your workout intense. Thats a common mistake when trying to bulk, people go for the protein and forget about the carbs. while the protein intake should go up and carbs should not, they still are important.

hmmm ok ill try that, but im just wondering eating too much is not gonna make me fat right? What about my quest to have a 6 pack is that gonna help me too?Is drinking protein drink before sleeping make me fat too?

and also im doing cardio(bicycle) every other day 40 min <--------- is that enough?

its not carbs, protein, or fats that make you "fat". Its calories. Eating an excess of calories and not using them all is going to store fat, but for most people who want to gain muscle, its a small risk that they take. After a bulking cycle, they simply go into fat burning mode and cut back down.

Check out this article on how Adrian Brody went from Scrawny to Brawny for the new King Kong movie. It has some good work-out routines.

Yes, if you are too skinny, not enough body fat, it wont develope into muscles, there's only a certain about of mucles you can gain. Why do you think body builders take alot of weight gainers, or those skinny guys who workout, they drink alot of mass gainers.

extra calories, means you can gain weight. if you are training properly, it should be muscle that you gain, with minimal fat gain.
not enough calories, means you lose weight. if you really starve yourself, you'll lose muscle, NOT FAT, because the body will save fat for the future so you don't die. the body assumes when calories get too low, that they'll keep going lower, eventually hitting 0 calorie intake (literal starvation), at which point, it'd use up fat to keep you alive. when that's gone...you're not long for this world.

And carbs are very anabolic. a good bulking routine typically does increase carb intake, but ideally they are clean carbs (whole grains, brown rice) and not empty ones like sugars and highly refined carbs...essentially a clean bulk vs. eating everythign around you bulk.

Nice thanks guys
