Am I in danger of weightlifters shoulder?

I recently read something about weightlifters shoulders and it mentioned military presses and weight lifting of the shoulders in general causing it.

It just generalized the cause, it didn't say if bad form specifically caused it or what....which had me worried and angry at the article for not providing enough info so I could be certain what about weightlifting can cause this injury.

I do 95 lb. military presses.

I also do something else that contributes to my worry, I do power cleans to help me get the weight on my back so I can do my squats and my squat is about to be 115 lbs. next week.

So my squat will be 115 lbs. but my military press will be 95 lbs....a 20 lb. difference.

Will hulking 20 lbs. extra onto my shoulder enhance the risk of injury?

Does anyone have info in general about this injury? I will also do more research myself.

Thanks.

In the weight-lifting world we call it "Idiots Shoulder"

injuries are caused by bad form, bad training programs and over training.

I have no idea what "weightlifters" shoulder is. I do know what improperly training your shoulder can bring about.

As for your squat question, are you asking if using your shoulders/body to hold the weight while you do the squats is going to cause you inury?

If you do it wrong, sure it could.

I don't know what you read, but I would instead read this...

Of course I am not worried about the weight being on the shoulders as that is how squats are done, I was just worried that a power clean to get the weight up there wasn't a good choice.

I like power cleans, and I like to think its a bit extra workout I get when I use it to ready my squat.

That article I read just worried me as 1 of the 5 weightlifting exercises it warned about was a military press done from behind the neck not in front. The article just stated this workout was bad as it would cause this injury, it didn't even say what about it....it just made you think that exercise in general was dangerous.

the wrong exercises can be dangeoraus, spechally to your shoulder. If you want to avoid shoulder injury, dont do stuff behind the neck. Alot of people will say that behind the neck work works for them, and thats good, but its up to you if you want to take the risk.

If you do powercleans to get the weight on your back for squats, im guessing you dont have a rack? If your afraid of your shoulders, then do front squats instead, thats the position you catch the clean in, then just squat it. (google front squats if you dont know what they are). As i dont think clean - military press (with alot of leg drive) - lower behind the neck, then squat is such a good idea. Seeing as you will be cleaning and squatting way more weight than you can safely lower behind your neck..
