It took me almost a year to get there.

You will get there eventually...I will throw you a coming out party :D

Thanks Ali.
Although isn't a coming out party for something else....
I know I was hit on last week and all but really- the assumptions made around here are amazing!:D

Honestly though- thanks Ali.

Well don't debutantes have coming out parties...oh wait, that isn't what you meant... :D

Anytime Brian...stick with me, I'll get you through this (or cause you to be committed, not sure which one is more likely at this point, hehe)

This is my first real attempt ever at losing weight. Aren't I allowed a little room to whine??.
If this is your first real attempt at losing weight and are doing well at it -then no - you really don't get much room to whine - you only get to whine if it's attempt 26.. or more...

but hey you're diary -do what you want..

You are right, I know you are right.....
But c'mon- This is my first real attempt ever at losing weight. Aren't I allowed a little room to whine??
Please:)

Looks like the atttached......

Looks good to me :)

Lighten up on yourself, ok? You know what to do, just keep doing it.

Take it from someone who has been there. You want to read whining? Look at my diary. I have gone through all of this.

So unfair.:(

I would go pout now but that just does not seem right at my age..

Thanks for the perspective Mal.

I'm good.
Just got frustrated this morning thats all.
Man needs to whine every now and again- makes the world go 'round.

I shall get through this and will take measurements starting tomorrow morning and post them here.

I know you will - get it off your chest rather than take it home to your wife.

I expect to see measurements tomorrow mister, I am holding you to it!

you're kdding right? It's a proven fact that it does get bigger as you lose weight -but you might want to keep that to yourself :)

Quite the mind on you:D It did not even register that I really left the door open for that one..
Sadly it has not grown after losing 35 lbs.....

Chest/Waist/Abs/Neck

Thank you- this is what I needed.

you could also do hips as welll but you probably won't see much change there unless your bum increases from squats and lunges...

thigh and calf are also good measurements - thighs are fairly easy to get to adjust - calves take some work...

OK.

After all the drama from the day I have reached a few conclusions.

1. I am not crazy. I need to remember that this is my first real attempt at losing weight. I am going to do things wrong.
2. I need to keep a tighter rein on my calories. I need to start counting again. *sigh*
3. I need to start taking measurements. This will happen in the am tomorrow.
4. I need to remember where I came from- not where I need to go. I was a 265 lb chain smoking sob 5 months ago. Now I am a 225 lb sob who eats right and doesn't smoke.
5. I need to start focusing on the positives.
6. As long as anything is changing- scale, measurements or fitness/strength it is a good thing and a tool to keep moving.

Ran 6 miles today in just under 54 minutes. My goal by the end of next week is going to be to run 10 miles in one run- averaging a 10min mile. 1/2 marathon on 8/15! :)

I am so glad you came to your senses :)

I am so proud of what you have done. There is progress, I am glad you are finally seeing it.

I am honestly curious what you mean by this. I was under the impression that your BMR- with activity added- was your maintenance.

Yea.

It is.

Well it's BMR+TEA+TEF+NEAT

TEA=thermic effect of activity
TEF=thermic effect of food
NEAT=non-exercise activity thermogenesis

It's all estimates. I was just curious of how exactly you calc'd the maintenance.

You know I am not trying to strike a nerve with this. It is the whole 'a mile in their shoes' thing. It was not meant as a slight to you. Until you actually experience it first hand, to and about you, it will never register 100%.
You do understand this much better than most 'in shape' people I have heard/seen/spoken to.

I 100% completely understand. I promise I do... and trust me, there are no struck nerves here.

I don't sweat these kind of statements too much. I'm confident in my competence as a trainer. It's sort of like a good oncologist who has never had cancer. I understand that 'walking a mile' doesn't prove competence of a trainer.

When the scale does not move it does not erase the positives- it emphasizes the negatives.

I've discussed this exact thing in the scale mentality thread.

I found my first race.
8K in Yorkville IL- literally the town next door to my little hole in the world.

For the Walter Payton Charity June 7. This will be my birthday gift to myself.
Now I need to train so I do not embarrass myself.

Right.....
Take your word on that one.

Nope, never will. Thanks for getting that

Than I obviously need to reread that thread. I do not remember it that well after all.
