Mods on this board are not paid or solicited. We all volunteer our time. We all put in several hours a week (or more) answering questions, welcoming new members, watching for (and deleting) spam, and making sure the board runs smoothly. We do this because we care about the integrity of this place. They also have professional moderators on that site. [...]
I am a bit surprised at how involved and "personal" the mods on this board are. Guess things are very different here, but my "horsey" board is also made up of industry professionals who have to worry about how online persona affect their professional lives.
That doesn't mean that we don't also participate here as PEOPLE. We are also people who have lost/are losing weight. We are also human beings. We are also part of the community.
I've spent about 6 months here as a mod and in that time I've been cursed at, yelled at, been called names, sent hate email, had people give me negative reputation for removing spam and enforcing the rules of the board (rules I didn't set - but that were set by the owner), accused of being a dictator, now accused of having a "Christ complex", accused of all kinds of hateful things. I put hours each week into this site. I spend time cleaning up spam, posting welcomes, giving advice, providing links ... and this is the type of thanks I get ... some newbie who joined 15 days ago telling me that I've never been helpful or encouraging.
Yeah, I'm pissed off about it. I'm angry. I'm hurt. I'm frustrated. I put a fuckload of work into this site for no other reason than that I CARE ... and this is the thanks I get.
If any of you think you can do it better, then YOU send an email to the admin and ask to be a moderator. YOU put in the hours of work each week to make this site run smoothly. You put in the time to make sbure that the information provided is accurate and helpful and not full of lies and rumors. Obviously all of you can do it so much better than the rest of us.
