It was a good day, I ate well and feel good tonight. No gym or much exercise today, it was a rest day. I did mow the lawn and did some other yardwork, so got a little exercise. I am still struggling to make my 33 gram fat and 150 protein while staying under 1,500 calories, I made it today but had to do some careful choosing of portion size and food at the end of the day. It worked out ok. I also had my first weekly weight gain, kind of a shock to see, even if it was expected, and really kind of what I want. Not to gain weight but to stabilize.
Never heard about the reverse diet.
Thanks Xena, guess we have about the same level of expertise then, LOL!
I've heard the term but I don't know of any solid substance behind it. I'm all for you raising your calories every week you lose weight though! And you did lose weight over the three weeks you ate 1500 kcal/day, didn't you?
Yes, even with the 2 pound gain I am down 4 lbs net in the 3 weeks, one reason I am not worried. I suppose reverse dieting is just the name people give to increasing calories after reaching goal. There does seem to be a lot about it on the internet, but like you and Xena its a new term to me.
I have heard the term too, but I think adding calories back in gradually is just a commonsense approach to easing into maintenance which everyone needs to do if they have been restricting calories to lose weight. Names are just gimmicky.
I think you are right Cate, its just a name to give people the chance to express opinions. You would think it was just commonsense, but all the experts seem to have differing opinions, from a very slow deliberate process to some who don't believe in it at all and suggest you are better off increasing calories to your predicted maintenance level right away. I am not sure that last approach would be best for me. I could not find any good science behind any of it, just lots of opinions.
Rob you seem to have this diet thing worked out . For us that are maintaining and want to lose we should cut our cals by 100 a day ! So makes sense for you to add in if your losing .
Thanks Petal, but I am not sure I will ever "
have this diet thing worked out", I am just hoping to muddle along to something that works for me.
You are fine, you're doing great Rob. It must be a bit of a shock to see the scales go up after all this time, but I would just keep the exercise and good eating up and consult with the gym instructor if you get a bit worried.
Thanks Emily, and it was a bit of a shock. For the last year and several months I have looked forward to the positive reinforcement of losing weight consistently. It was kind of exciting. That is now gone, and I am struggling a bit finding a replacement.
i know everyone seems to have some personal feelings about the"weigh yourself every day" routine, but i found it especially helpful as i approached the healthy BMI boundary. there were probably as many up as there were down days but without a graph, the steady but much slower weight loss trend would have been harder to pickup.
Thanks Flyer, that is a good idea. I already weigh myself every day, usually several times a day. What I don't do is record it, but I can see how in maintenance it would help sort out real weight gain or loss from noise.
