Alligatorob's Diary

You’re doing great Rob. Losing the ‘pudge’ is my goal too. I want to fit into my old jeans. That’s when I know I’m where I want to be.

Hey Rob,

I really enjoy your daily reports and all the responses. I'm finding myself checking in a bit more often these days for whatever reason.

That's good news for me that wide hips mean less chance of heart issues - I literally had never heard that.

It's impressive you're up to 50 situps from zero. Although I personally prefer "elbow-to-opposite-knee crunches" which is more of a description than a name, you know what I mean. They target your abs better than situps and are more efficient in my opinion. You can really feel the sting in your abs quicker than with situps. It seems to me it's less strainful on your back as well. Anyway, I just thought I'd mention that. To me, it's one of the best exercises there is.

Got a kick out of that one, a couple of months ago I tried and could not do a single sit up. So I started trying and doing what I could every few days. Yesterday I did 30, the first 10 were pretty good, the last 20 I had to cheat a bit but managed to do them. I have been working on my abs for that pudgy stomach thing, but its not having the desired effect. I can feel a pretty hard stomach now, unfortunately its under a bit of a fat roll! Guess I can keep trying.

Sounds like a great non-scale victory to me - well done!

It was a good day, I ate well, exercised and feel pretty good tonight. Did an 8 km walk tonight. Another wildflower picture, a Rimrock Milkvetch, I think, got to be some kind of Milkvetch.

Ha! It may be the most elusive goal of all. At your age it should be easier than mine, I know you'll be in those jeans in no time.

Thanks Jack, I will have to give them a try. I am kind of tied to situps from my long lost youth. When I was in high school I could do 300 situps and only stopped when I got bored. Don't think those days are coming back, but doing a few does make me feel better!
7.5km hike, situps, size 36 pants..
Thanks Cate, I am feeling pretty good about it! Not forgetting that I could not have gotten here without the help and support of so many on the forum, and you are close to the top of the list.

Yeah, I suppose it is, but it will feel better when I can do 30 proper situps.

Lol I don't think I could do 300 situps, but I think 30 is a decent and achievable goal!!
How long do your walks take you? They're quite a distance.

That IS what they say. Although Tru posted something recently about a possibly exception for a specific hula-hoop routine :)
oh is that why all the hula hoops were coming out a while back!

Great job on the continued walking Rob and thanks for posting the wildflower pictures--nice to see what's blooming!

Rob keep at the sit ups you will have that six pack in no time . Lovely flowers and well done on all the walks. Very inspiring

Rob, you are a never-failing source of inspiration. I am so impressed with your all-roundness - weight loss and fitness and loving life! :) (And I liked the look of your eating yesterday, too - b-b-bananas and b-b-broccoli! yay for all the good things starting with B!)

why all the hula hoops were coming out a while back!
Oh! I can get out and buy one now - look out world! :D

It was a good day, ate well, exercised, and feel good. I only did a 4 km walk this morning, did not have time for more. But I got a good workout this afternoon. After the 30 situps I tried Jack's suggestion of the crunch. I can feel that its a good idea, may work some into my routine. Here is another wildflower, not sure what these are, quite common but I can't find them in my list of wildflowers. Maybe an invasive?

Tomorrow I may forgo a walk, I am thinking of trying another assault on the mountain Sunday and find a day of walking rest helps with the big one.

They vary, but I usually walk for 1 or 2 hours depending on length and the kind of trail. Today was a shorter one, according to my app it took me about 54 minutes to walk 4.2 km at a pace of about 13 min/km. Not a real fast pace, but my fastest so far.

I will try to keep posting them. We only get wildflowers in a brief window between snow melt and the dry summer.
Yup. Mine´s still out and has to work somewhat regularly
I will have to see if I can find a hulahoop. I never was very good with one, think I might look kinda silly trying...
Rob keep at the sit ups you will have that six pack in no time
Ha! One thing I am pretty sure I'll never have is a six pack belly! Not unless the one you get from drinking six packs of beer gives you. I can already feel harder stomach muscles, I would just be happy to have a little less fat padding them! To be honest I have loose skin on my belly that would probably make a six pack look impossible, I will be real happy with flat.
If you start with 10 sit-ups and add 1 more each day, you’ll be up to 300 in a year’s time!
Not a bad idea, but I probably will never get close to 300 again. And I don't feel the need to, if I can do 30 good ones I will be happy.
I am so impressed with your all-roundness - weight loss and fitness and loving life!
Thank you Amy, and compared to where I was a year ago I really do feel a lot better, but with less "roundness"!

Very close to standard walking speed, which primary school memory says is 5km/h, or 12 min/km.

If you do decide to get one a larger diameter and/or higher weight make it easier to work with. But higher weight can also mean you need to wear three shirts at first to get your skin used to the pressure.

It was a good day, I ate well, exercised a little, and feel good tonight.

After an early workout my plan was to get more exercise swimming. Put the boat in the water for the first time, dropped anchor and jumped in, it was way too cold for me, 59 F (15 C). I did a short lap around the boat and got back in to warm up. This is my first time swimming since I started this diet, its harder now, I have a lot less flotation! Will keep trying, the lake will warm up soon. My boat at the dock.

Tomorrow I plan another assault on the mountain, no real goals this time just want to get further than before. A rise of more than 2,000 ft (600 m) would be great, that would put me a bit more than half way to the top. We will see how I feel when I get there, don't want to overdo it, need to get down alive. The mountain I will be climbing is in the background of the boat picture. A different view than what I have been posting from our side.
Lovely flowers again and sounds like another good day!
Thanks Liza, it was. No flowers today, but I will try tomorrow.

Thanks LaMa, getting up to "standard" is an accomplishment for me! Tomorrow's walk will be a lot slower, steep and without trails.
I did think of that when I posted!
Ha! It is nice not to be quite so round. My shape still isn't quite what I'd like it to be, but then who's ever is.

That's a good-looking boat! 15 degrees is ineed on the chilly side for swimming, especially if you're just jumping in and not warming up up beforehand. Your heart IS healthy, isn't it?

yikes i can't do cold water at all!! Good luck on the walk tomorrow. Don't forget your snack this time (or your water) :)
And yes glad to hear you plan to not overdo it--no sense in hurting yourself just for a walk!

The swimming will be lovely when the weather warms up. When the restrictions ease a bit here in the next weeks/months, I plan on driving to the beach and taking a dip also!
