Alligatorob's Diary

ok... i have to admit they did give a weight after that. it does make more sense to weigh fruit than calculate by volume, but i suppose it's because so many more people can picture a cup and actually have a cup on hand, than to guess a weight or even have a scale to check. i suppose the way (weigh?) i'd do it would have to be weighing beforehand and then subtracting the pits afterward. does anyone really pit cherries before eating them?

i was eyeing some cherries a few days ago, but they still seem a bit too pricey yet.

Cherries are just getting ripe here, another week and they will be plentiful. Lots of cherry orchards around us. For the next few weeks, so long as I can get local fresh picked, I will be eating a lot of cherries. We have 1 tree, a 2 year old, looks like we may get half a dozen cherries this year. Next year we should get a real crop. I vary the way I figure how many cherries, sometimes I weigh them, and sometimes I just count.

It was the slaughter of the innocents in the peaches today, they got thinned and we have lots of green peaches on the ground. It always looks like the farmer takes out too many, but in the end it always seems that he knows what he's doing.

I think it´s more the American way vs the European weigh. Our recipes and calories always feature weighed amounts rather than amounts by volume.

Doesn´t it look horrible? It makes the quality so much better though.

Oh, yum. I so love cherries!
I just looked up what to do with green peaches, but then wondered what the heck you would do with pickled green peaches!
I'm going under with my protein at the moment too. I know Tru uses Cronometer, but I found it harder to follow than My Fitness Pal, which I have used on & off for years. I have lots of things saved on that which saves me time logging.

In Oxford in 1355 the St Scholastica Day riot left 63 students and at least 30 towns people dead. Probably the most notorious event in Oxford's history.

 So two students whine at, then assault a pub owner, two days of riots ensue and it ends with the university getting more rights?
Goes to show that students were rich people at the time. I liked this bit though: "As the situation escalated, locals from the surrounding countryside poured in, crying: "Havac! Havoc! Smyt fast, give gode knocks!""

It was a good day, I ate fewer calories than planned, but don't feel food deprived. I will probably try for more tomorrow.

One thing that has helped me eat fewer calories and still feel good is that I have really changed my eating habits and mostly eat things I know to be low calorie, low calorie Greek yogurt, sliced meat with calories on the label so I can select the lowest calorie and be sure of my count, lots of fruit, salad without dressing, and so on. Tonight's exception was some macaroni and cheese, just a little. My wife made it from pasta and ingredients, not from a box, it was for the grandkids, who seem fine with the stuff from a box, I am not.

In 1151 Iceland offered the world's first know offered the first known fire and plague insurance. Many of us still carry fire insurance, plague insurance not so much.

I am starting to fit into clothes that were too small a couple of months ago, it feels good. Not that I've gotten small or anything, dropping from a 5 XL to a 4 XL for a guy who should be a M or L is a start, but no where near the end. Kind of feel like a snake shedding the first skin, lots more to come.

I am not sure what to do with my big clothes, this isn't my first time at this rodeo. In the past I happily gave my old big clothes away, but then when I regained the weight I had to replace them. Not getting rid of them seems like planning to fail, but getting rid of them doesn't seem pragmatic.

What do others do about this?

On the way up, gaining weight, I never got rid of the clothes as I outgrew them. Never wanted to admit the weight gain might be permanent, or even long term. So I have a pretty good wardrobe in waiting.

What I usually tell friends who can´t throw things away even though they don´t wear them is to put them into a box, put that box away somewhere inconvenient and if after a year you haven´t taken the box back out to look into it it´s safe to donate the whole thing. Maybe a similar thing applies here? Congratulations on having that problem, by the way!

Congratulations! You seem to be doing pretty well and having some solid progress.

I got rid of all my fat clothes once i lost weight. I was never supposed to regain it. But life happens I guess. It resulted on quite a bit of shopping having to be done. I guess they can serve as a reminder or inspiration too. Ill keep a few token pieces this time around. To remind myself of the accomplishment.

I think boxing clothes up & labelling them with sizes & then giving them away to a charity shop after maybe 2 years is a good idea. That's what I'm going to do from now on.

Yes, it does feel like planning to fail, but on the other hand it can be a reminder of how much you've lost, so keeping a few items might be useful? I guess sort out your clothes, and only keep garments that you really like in themselves, not just ones that are handy because they fit? So whittle down your storage of clothes, but hang on to the extra-special suit for a while, or the shirt in the wild Hawaian print which makes you smile. :)

No special suits, I rarely wear one anymore, but I got a bunch of the wild Hawaiian shirts, even more old ones in smaller sizes though.

Today was ok, a bit disrupted, but ok. At midnight we got a call from the stepson, he and his girlfriend had a fight and he needed a place to stay, he came over and I had too much whiskey commiserating with him. So less than an hour into my "dry July" I was off the wagon. Guess this has to fall into the category of "one ofs". I did drink less whiskey than I would have before the diet, and my food was just fine.

1495 was an important year, it was the date of the first record of Scotch Whiskey appears in the Exchequer Rolls of Scotland, Friar John Cor was the distiller of record. And civilization has been better for it since.

I hope he and his girlfriend are ok now.

That made me chuckle :)

Glad you are doing pretty well with your diet, I see that you had about 1,495 calories today. Have you ever checked your TDEE? You weigh almost about the same as me, and my 500 calorie deficit is about 3,200 calories per day. Did you ever check your TDEE? You could be eating more calories and still lose weight!

No, what's a TDEE?

Total Daily Energy Expenditure. Or the amount of calories you could eat and keep your current weight. There 's a ton of different calculators online and it's often helpful to check several because they tend to differ a bit.

Hi Rob! I love what you've been doing with your calorie totals, that's a fun idea :) I also agree with Cate's idea for your bigger clothes, putting them away for a while will help with getting them out of your way and then getting rid of them a little later and if you do happen to slip up (temporarily!) you can always reach for them instead of having to buy more.
