Alligatorob's Diary

Weighed in this morning at 300 even, down 3 lbs from last week! Really should look at as more like down 5 lbs in the last 4 weeks, but any way you look at it, it looks good to me!

I've been thinking about the subtle urge to overeat I feel. So far I have not had too much trouble resisting it, but I know its an insidious thing to fight, and doubt it will ever completely go away. Oh well, for now my goal is just to overcome it today.

Happy Juneteenth y'all!

I went a bit under on calories, but don't feel like I did.
Maybe because the difference in calories is mostly not having had a drink?

That´s a great attitude.
Also: congrats on the drop!

Yeah, that is probably it. I have budgeted my calories so I could have a nightcap, but then didn't feel the need to. Maybe I will try doing that every other day or so.

Congrats on the 3 pound loss!

I remember that feeling. One of the ways I used to deal with it was to think of my least favorite food. Something bland I would not normally eat. A plain potato for example. Without salt or oil. If I thought about that and still wanted to eat, then I was truly hungry. Otherwise I reminded myself it was mostly a craving.

Generally having a fixed, pre planned portion and waiting a bit/using the above method helped me the most

It is way easier staying under your calories without the nightcap. Good for you fighting the urge to overeat. It does get easier & you are doing really well :)

Another good day, and I am finding that avoiding the nightcap, at least on some days, is an easy way to get my calories down.

Our first harvest. Its a small and misshapen zucchini, but, other than lettuce, its the first edible from the garden. Will probably eat it tonight. We've got more that should be ready in a few days.Zuc.JPG

Me too. By "allowing" myself to have a glass of wine if I want to, but only if it fits within my calories, I am finding that I don't bother. Tracking is the key & also not feeling like I can't have a glass if I really feel like one.
Fresh veggies from your own garden are the best! I love zucchinis, especially oven baked. They are very versatile.

I did not skip the nightcap last night, but I still did well.

My calorie counts are seeming low, I feel like I am eating plenty of food and that somehow it should be more calories. I do make and pretty honest estimate of calories, I measure and weigh when I can, and I read the labels. And I am losing weight. Perhaps my stomach has shrunk and less now feels like more.

I think you may be underestimating that brunch. Two large fried eggs would be around 180 calories but only if no oil was used in preparation - usually restaurants use at least a tablespoon of oil, which would add around 120 kcal. I don´t know what kind of sauce was used but if it´s comparable with mayonnaise it´s around 50 kcal per tablespoon. And a cup of boiled white rice has around 200 kcal (but of course I don´t know how much you had, just that around here you usually get a LOT of rice). So you could be absolutely right or you could be 200 kcal under.

I still respect and support your night cap ;) They are your calories, and its up to you to spend them the way you choose. Just make sure you are tracking it accurately, and choose lower calorie options where ever possible.

Are you growing other kinds of vegetables?? I envy your ability to grow your food!

You are right of course, I just got the fried egg calories off the internet, that may have missed the oil, I think the rice was ok, it was not a whole lot. The sauce is hard to tell, they called it chili verde sauce. I appreciate your QC, keeping me honest!

Thanks, I have noticed that even with an occasional nightcap my alcohol supply is going a lot further than it used to, I am drinking less. I have switched to drinking more neat whiskey, I tend to drink it pretty slowly and I don't think it has many calories from anything other than the alcohol.

Yes we have also planted other kinds of squash, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, green beans, and cucumbers. Also a few onions planted between things. Not a lot of anything, we grow it all in 5 big ~300 gallon cattle watering troughs filled with good top soil. The first tomatoes look like they should start being ready to pick in a week or so, all else is a bit behind that. We also have 2 old apple trees that produce a lot more apples than we can eat, and 2 young pear trees and a cheery trees, this year we may get a few pears and a very few cherries, but by next year we should be getting good crops. We also have a small peach farm, 108 trees total, it is managed and harvested by a contract farmer, but we get all the peaches we can eat. Yes I like growing some of my own food, it probably costs more than store bought but you feel so good about it. My wife would like to get chickens, but so far I have been able to talk her out of it, maybe we'll plant a couple more fruit trees instead.

Most definitely. You know what went into it (water, air, possibly manure, and nothing else) and can harvest at peak ripeness. As long as you don´t actively dislike gardening it´s completely worth it.

Yesterday was a tough day, I had a strong craving to overeat most all day. It wasn't hunger it was that insidious instinct to eat. I tried fighting it by eating bulk, lots of fruit and for dinner about 3 cups of asparagus, mostly stems. It kept me on track for calories, but bingeing on asparagus and fruit still seems like a binge, albeit a more healthy one. I also found not to trust one of my estimates. I put out what I estimated to be about 3 ounces of lean pork, but then weighed it to be sure, turned out it was 5 ounces, guess I need to stick with more diligent weighing and measuring.

Good news is I was on track calorie wise and feel good this morning!

It has been unseasonably cold, windy and temperatures in the 60s, normal this time of year is 20 degrees warmer, where is global warming when you need it?

Thanks for all the nice words about our garden, I do enjoy it, so does my wife, she probably does more of the work than I do. It is the one thing I miss about not being in Florida, back then we could produce year round and had a lot more variety. But here the bugs and weeds are much less fierce, the soil is a lot better, and we can have the peaches, apples, pears, and cherries that don't grow in Florida's subtropical clime.
