ACL Surgury - Working Out a Tendon?

My girlfriend recently started working out with me but she had ACL surgury a couple years ago.

She has problems working out some of her choice legs muscles and running. She wanted me to find out.... Is there any way to maybe workout a tendon (I'm not sure if its a tendon or a ligament) to make it stronger? She beileves so because they had her excersizing during her psychical therapy after the surgury. I'm rather spectical, I don't think you can build a tendon or ligament like you can a muscle.

Any insite provided is much appriciated.
Thanks

Yes, you can build tendon strength. But I think it'd be wise of her to see a physical therapist or sports medicine doctor just to have a look at it's functional movement and see what they recommend.

I had ACL surgery a few years back. My leg lost a lot of muscle and the tendon did indeed need to be exercised. The doctor told me that if it did not get properly excercised it could end up in relatively bad shape. They had me doing basic leg exercises involving knee movement. Running was recomended. I think the basic idea is to constantly stretch the tendon so it becomes tight and strong.

Anyway a physical theropist or doctor would really be the best ones to get info from for proper exercise information.

Imagine the tended like a something braded like hair or straw or something. If its lose it gets a bit frayed, if you pull it tight though it gets stronger, thats kind of how I understood it. It's not like muscle strength though.

Single leg training, propriocptive training, standing on one leg w/ eyes closed, progress to unstable surface like Bosu or wobble board. 1 leg squats bending down to pick up marbles off the floor at different angles. Short ROM lunges, wall squats, work and stretch the hammies, hip flexors and quads. Stabilty ball leg curls for the hammies. These are just a few things.
