ache between shoulder blades

Ok I might being doing something wrong... every time (last 3 or 4 times in a row) I do shoulder shrugs... take 55 or 60 lbs dumbells and do 10x3 shrugs... I get this nagging tightness/ache between my shoulder blades. It might not be the shrugs... it could be another excercise or a combination...

any ideas?

well shurgs hit your traps hard, and the place you are describing is your traps. so, i would assume its just doing its job. I get a similar pain when i do deadlifts. but mine goes away by the time i hit the next exercise.

you should be alright, but definately keep an eye on it.

I know when my stress levels get high I get the same pain... perhaps that muscle on the left side just is conditioned to stay tense or conversly doesn't know how to relax... and the pull on the spine irritates it...

You may have a knot in your muscle. It might be worth your time to get a massage, then start stretching PWO, foam rolling, etc.

You know all my life I thought that knot in a muscle was just a figure of speach... can you really get a Knot in you muscle... what is is?

It's probably more like a lump of scar tissue or adhesion. It's called a knot because it feels like a lump. Stretching usually doesn't get rid of it, not like charley horse (I've had those too).

So, it is a figure of speech.

I spoke to a massage theropist... my college roomy... and he says that what I described to him is fairly common... and that I should stretch that muscle after I work out next time and see how it goes...
