Abs and Weight?

I exercise frequently (about 5 times a week for at least 30 minutes), and I go hard. I have a muscular stomach with pretty defined abs, but recently, my period has stopped.

I'm pretty sure I've developed amenorrhea due to the amount of exercise I do and my diet. Now, I'd liked to gain a few pounds to get my menstrual cycle and body back on track, but I'm a little scared that I'll develop a layer of fat over my abdominal area which will end up covering them. It would be a shame considering how hard I worked to get them the way they are.

So my question is is there anyway I can gain a few pounds but still keep my abs?

If you were to gain a few lbs of muscle it would be easy, but their isn't an easy way to put on weight and avoid the midsection. There's not a proven body fat threshold, nor is that the sole cause. Sometimes it can be the diet, intense exercise, stress (physical/mental), or just an obscure energy balance. So adjusting your diet to hold more calories (healthy: veggies, whole grains, etc) you might be able to minimize the fat deposition and correct the problem. Also, could you define 'recently'?

Keep me updated, as I've only had one training partner go through this and she 'isn't worried about it'. :/

I'd also make your gynecologist aware of this and see what they suggest. It could be because of your age unless you are in your 20's. Is this the first time you've skipped your period? I have the same workout regime and could actually add a couple hundred calories and still have abs it just depends on how clean you eat.

Congratulations. You're preggo.

That could be a possibility. Have you had that ruled out?
