Well, I'm getting to about the time to where I'm about to give up on this whole idea of getting into shape. Maybe some people just aren't meant to be slim and just need to accept the fact that I'm overweight, and will always be overweight.
Well here's the story:
About 10 months ago I took a good hard look at myself and decided that it was time to do something about my weight, not only for health reasons, but also for self esteem reasons. I weighed in at a whopping 250lbs @ 5'9, about 80lbs overweight. I started off going on a crash diet, eating next to nothing and after 2 weeks, got me down to about 235lbs. I eventually figured that I wouldn't be able to keep up this fad and that I needed to change my lifestyle all together, make healthy choices, monitor what I eat, and get some exercise in my daily routine. I joined a gym and had my BMR/RMR measured. I came in @ about 2200 calories at rest. I started hitting the weight and cardio about 3-4 days per week religiously. I dropped to about 210lbs and the lbs started dropping slowly..eventually I got to 202 and I plateaued. Here's where it got interesting. I tried increasing the duration and intensity of my workouts but to no avail, still @ 202 lbs. I tried upping my calories from 1600-1800 calories to about 2000-2200 to no avail, still 202 lbs. This went on for about 2-3 months. I spoke with Steve and I decided to take a week off and eat normally. After the week was up, I had my RMR tested again, and I came in @ 2100 calories. I started gradually lowering my calories again and noticed a drop....I dropped to about 199lbs, and I've been @ 199lbs for about a month now. Now here's where it gets interesting...I hurt my shoulder, so I have been unable to do any form of weightlifting of what so ever (Wasn't working anyway), so I decided that since I've got all this fat on my stomach, that I would crank up my cardio workouts and do it most days....Right now for about 1.5 weeks, I've been religiously running every night, 6 nights per week, for about 2 miles. I play tennis during the day with my wife and I do alot of yardwork as well. I eat about 1400-1800 calories per day (trying to keep it @ 1000 calorie deficit) and to my frustration, is still @ 199 lbs. What really pisses me off is that there are people pigging out with no self-control or dicipline of whatsoever and they look the same way as I do..But I do without some of my favorite foods, I work my ass off trying to get a good days work in, I watch everything I eat, I count calories, I weigh my food . I should look damn good but unfortunately, I don't. I don't know what else to do...I cut calories, weight stays the same, I increase, still nothing...I work out harder, nothing...I work out longer..and still 199lbs. I take breaks, and nothing...I am running out of ideas and is VERY close to just giving up. I'm afraid that cosmetic surgery remaining the only untested area right now...I don't want to do it, but I can't keep doing this and not see results. Now I'm going to wait until Sunday, which adds another week of this..And I'm gonna weigh myself..If I weigh more than at least 197 lbs, then I don't know what im gonna do.
