About me/my story

Hi everyone. As you can see my name is Walt. I'm 25 and I have a problem with food, and I thought having a support system would help.

At my "known" heaviest I weighed in at 290, and it could have been more because I was always afraid of the scale. Over 12 months, I went down to 185. Just doing the simple things. Started out walking 5-6miles a every day, and eating better. I started to run more as the weight went down, and lifting weights. I still remember getting under 200, I was really proud.

But anyways...I live in Minnesota, and the winters here are long, so gaining a few winter pounds is expected. I had a treadmill I was using for the winter, but it got stuck on the highest incline. I got discouraged, because at the time I just wanted to run, not walk on a incline. I stopped working out, and eating bad again. I gained some weight.

I currently started using the "broke" treadmill, and wow, it's a workout! Just walking is tough. But the problem is that even when I was down to 185 the desire for food never left, and I'm afraid it will never go away.

Thanks for reading. Good luck and best wishes to everyone! Hopefully we all can get to where we're going.

Hey Walt

Although you have a problem with eating, it looks like you can gather the energy to power through 5 to 6 miles. I was much like you at your age. So, it sounds like you know how to lose the weight. You are fortunate. Many guys do not know how to do this.

Your issue is that you do not know how to keep the weight off. I really recommend making sure that you write down everything you eat in one day. Just write down everything. Don't forget anything or downplay the importance of anything - crackers, lumps of sugar, milk.

When you write everything down, you will start to see unnecessary things that you without even thinking about them at the time.

Do this and report back

You are among friends

I currently have the same problem.

I cannot control how much I eat. It's like i'm a bottomless pit. I hate it, and i prefer to eat by myself so people dont see how much of a fat-ass i am.

Trust....ur not alone.

Hi and welcome.

The first thing I'd suggest is registering for a free account on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal or Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate and starting to log your food. This will let you see how many calories you're eating and how your nutrition levels are breaking down. Once you know that, you'll be able to see more clearly where you can make adjustments, cut back, change your nutrition, etc.

The next thing I'd suggest is checking out the various sticky posts in the exercise area of the forum (Weight Loss Through Exercise - Weight Loss Forum). There are some very good posts on exercise, both cardio/aerobic and on incorporating weight lifting into your exercise plans.

I'd also suggest starting a diary in the weight loss diary area (Weight Loss Diary - Weight Loss Forum) as well as reading and participating in other diaries. This is a good way to make updates to your progress and to get support from others. It helps to find the diaries of people who have successfully lost weight (or are losing weight) and reading through them as well. Following the diaries of those who have been successful is both inspiring and informative.

Finally, I'd say you should read as much as you can of the posts on the board, especially anything that's marked "sticky". There is a ton of good information around here and a lot of times questions that new folks have has already been answered very thoroughly - so do take the time to look around and read. :)

Hope that helps you to get started.

Maybe you are not eating because you are hungry. Do you think that that is possible? I know I have eaten a lot also just because it made me feel better, momentarily.

Hi Walt,

You are having a harsh winter up the in MN this year.

Good thing you have a treadmill. I have one too and one of the things I like to do is to hop on the treadmill around 8pm for at least 1/2 hour so I am not hungry the rest of the night and I can see that I burned off approx 250 calories of what I ate that day.
