Ab Workout

Hey, I have a regular workout routine:

Monday - Biceps, Forearms, Back
Tuesday - Abs
Wednesday - Triceps, Chest, Shoulders
Thursday - Abs

Saturday - All

So, am I allowed to have a small ab workout at the end of each day too? I heard you should give 1 day rest between working out the same muscle group, but I also heard that you should work off what you eat during the day by doing sit ups at the end of the day.

Wow =D I didn't think you guys would reply so fast (comparing to the other forum in which they still didn't reply to this day -_-)

Anyways, I GUESS I'm bulking. I'm only 18, so I don't think I'm supposed to be cutting yet (definately not fat, but I would like to keep my 4 pack if not turn it to a 6 pack). And Noooo I don't train legs. I do a 1 mile walk daily from monday - thursday anyways. I hate training legs because it seems so pointless to me. I know most people have like those chicken legs, but I'm far from chicken legs. Not fat, but I think my legs are fairly muscular already. Just not motivated enough to be able to even work them out the slightest bit.

Abs are like any other muscle, if you work them hard enough to cause growth, they need rest (at least 48 hours) before being worked again.

Not sure where you heard that, but it's not exactly sound scientific advice.

looking at it this way, i hope your eating a caloric surplus

figure out what your daily caloric needs are, add 500-1000 calories. thats how you gain muscle :] eating more, of course, more of protein/carbs and some fat in ur new diet.

Your workout is horribly imbalanced and exceptionally poor. Your reasoning for not training legs is also faulty. You would benefit greatly from a pre-made routine, rather than attempting to design a workout yourself. Take the time to look at a professionally written program, such as the ones offered here:

Sorry for not replying for a while but I'm back now, anyways, what makes you think I have a bad workout plan? I actually based my workout off of a bodybuilding website for an all dumbell workout. I read up on every exercise to make sure I'm doing it exactly as they suggest too. You can find this here: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/wotw3.htm And I also added some of the exercises on the bottem of that page (the extras) that I thought were good to add. Anyways, why would it be so important to train my legs? How will my legs help out? If the speed walking isn't enough, and I already have strong legs, why should I workout my legs? How does it benefit me? I'm a complete n00b to this stuff btw so maybe it's something obviouse. Anyways, thx for the tips - I won't workout the abs daily =( Really sucks cause I love working them out.

Your legs have some of the biggest muscles in your body. Working them helps in the overall scheme to reduce body fat and build up muscle.

You can develop your upper body to be that of Arnold, but if it's posted on chicken little legs, you'll look pretty silly. Think of the Red Stripe commercial.

Lastly, when the title says "Workout of the Week," avoid it as you would avoid the STD of the week.

I and a few others assembled the docs and workouts in the link Bip posted from those that got good reviews. It's not slapped together. I recommmend Waterbury's Anti-Bodybuilding Hypertrophy I and II as a good starting point.

If you want some more practical motivation, since leg muscles are the biggest in the body, hitting them hard will release the most amount of growth hormone. Thus, heavy squats and deadlifts will encourage your entire body to grow.

Besides, you'll be able to lift far heavier things with your legs than you ever could with your upper body. Bigger numbers = more impressive!
