A little advice please?

Hello all. So I've been at a plateau for a few weeks, hovering at around 250 with my lowest weight being 247 and my highest 255. Last monday, I did Crossfit with my friend, and it was the "dirty fifty" day for any of you that may do crossfit, and it completely laid me out. Tuesday I was useless, and Wednesday I was half useless. I couldn't help noticing however the way I felt when I did my normal routine on Wednesday. I felt so much stronger than before. So I've decided to continue crossfitting only at a much slower pace. Anyone on the forums doing crossift that can give me some pointers?

We'd need to hear about your nutrition if you're going to receive advice about your plateau.

That's probably where it's coming from.

What made you go with crossfit? I recently saw some commentary from the founder of crossfit downing a few other coaches in the industry. Man is he a jackass.

Well, admittedly, this past week hasn't been the best for nutrition, but I'm recommiting to putting that at the forefront. Generally, I keep it between 1600-2000 cals a day. I'm only able to make it to the gym 4 days a week, and I do 30 mins of cardio and then an hour of weights MWF and then on Tues I do 45 mins of cardio. Crossfit just seemed like the way to get the quickest benefits to endurance and strength. I'm not looking to bulk up, just slim and tone. It also helps that I have two friends using it and when I go to the gym, I'm alone with my ipod.

Well nutrition is everything when it comes to losing weight. You can't out exercise a poor or inconsistent diet. Before you go worrying about a true plateau, I'd focus on getting your nutrition down pack. Something like might help you.

FYI...

You don't bulk up without sufficient calories. You can have the ultimate bulk routine, if such a thing existed, and it wouldn't do much in terms of muscle development if you were dieting. Follow me?

In addition, I have this assumption based on what you said above that you think the higher rep, low rest stuff associated with crossfit leads to toning. I mean, you said:

I'm not looking to bulk up, just slim and tone.

Getting 'cut' is a function of losing body fat while maintaining muscle. And to be honest, while dieting and in general, the high rep low rest stuff isn't the most ideal for muscle maintenance.

There really isn't such a thing as toning with weights.

Yea I've had a fitday account or some variant on that for a while. It's just easier for me to count cals on pen and paper. What do you recommend I do about a plateau after I get my nutrition stable again?

I'm saying once you get your nutrition in check your plateau should go away. I've been doing this a long time and most 'plateaus' are nothing more than people either not being consistent enough or inaccurately assessing their true intake.

Not always. But most often.
