A Few Questions

Hey Im new here. Ive been on a diet since the first of the year I weighed about 260 pounds at 6' 5" I was slightly overweight. I have quit drinking soda and have backed off to 1500 calories/day. I have cut the fat and the sugar out of my diet and have increased my consumption of healthy sources of protein and vegetables. I also put myself on a multivitamin at the request of my doctor to make up for the lost calories. To date I have lost 23 pounds and 2 1/2 inches off my stomach, but I want more. Based on my Body Mass Index I should weigh in the neighborhood of 185-200. I want to have a six pack and be able to do outdoor activities without having to be short of breath. My current excercise regimn includes 25 minutes on a cardio glide, 25 crunches, 150 jumping jacks, and 50 pushups every night I get home from work. On the weekends I jog 1.5-2.0 miles on both Saturday and Sunday. Its getting easier with each day to complete these tasks, but I don't want to plateau and I sure as hell don't want to go backwards and get off of this diet. Does anyone have any other suggestions for losing the last 25 pounds and getting a six pack stomach?

You seem to have a good deal of calorie burning activities going on, which is good. The six pack will come only after a quick diet change.

Out of these 1500 calories, how many meals a day is that? It you are able to spread these out to 6 meals, without gaining any calories in your diet, or even cutting some, that will help significantly.

At this point, you're going to want to cut all the fat out and bring you down to around 10% or lower. I don't know what you're at right now, but just kind of continue what you're doing, and you should see the results soon enough!

Good luck! :D

Abs are made in the kitchen, we all have perfect 6 packs, we just cant see them under our "bellies". Keep the diet in check and maintain a healthy cardio routine to burn down the waistline.

Also do not be fooled by BMI calculators, at 6'5 and 185 lbs you would be a twig. BMI's do not accurately take into account the muscle mass of people. So don't go solely on those. Check your body fat % and try to get that to your goal %. Remember muscle weighs more than fat (it is more dense so it takes up less room).

To keep things fresh, keep pushing your distances or times. If you run is getting easier, time it, then keep beating that time, or increase the distance. Keep your intensity up and don't get lazy or relaxed with your routine. Even trying mixing in different cardio (bike, swimming etc) the shock on the new muscles and parts will remind you that you are working for it.

Keep it up and you will be washing clothes on your stomache in no time.

Like he said. Don't base your progress on the scale, base it on how you feel, and use your body fat %. Dont be discouraged if you work hard and don't lose weight. Maybe now is the time to add some weight training to that cardio program.

You need to do some weight training too!

If you build more lean muscle, you will raise your metabolic rate and threrefore burn colories more efficiantly.

Sounds like your doing what you need to. If you want to actualy see your six pack though, you will need to be somewhere between 10-5% bodyfat. Sence your about 240 lbs, and your running, your legs are going to be getting really strong, I wouldn't be suprised if you ended up gaining weight at some point, esecialy with the pushups your doing. Because remember for every push-up your pushing 240 pounds, doing fifty of those....well you must already be a pretty strong person.

What is a healthy weight loss for a 1 week period? So far I have lost an average of 5 pounds a week since the first of the year is this normal?

Multi

You mind me asking which multivitamin you are taking?
Reason I ask is because I took Centrum for a long time and it was just a waste of money. I got on a good product and dropped another 8 pounds inside of the first month.

This might be something to consider.

In good health,
Mike

The product that I use is made by Nutri-West its the Multi-Complex its good **** you have to take it 3 times a day the first two weeks then you can go down to 1 tablet each day. I have stayed on three tablets since I started it helps alot. Its kinda pricey, but it beats the hell out of centrum. Centrum is good, but I think the ingredients are tied up and are less digestable than the ingredients in the Nutri-West product. They smell like crap, and damn sure don't chew them.

I hope you haven't completely cut fat from your diet, as said in the first post. Fat is essential to make testosterone, low fat diet = low test levels. And believe me test will help lose weight. Try to keep your kcal where they are and throw some fish oil in there. Oh yeah, normal weightloss/week is 1-3lbs. Obviously the more overweight you are the quicker it will come, the skinnier you are the slower it will leave.

mreik,

Thanks for the advice. I am totally not interested in steroids. I try to stick to organic foods anything I don't want in my body I don't take and steroids is one of them. The vitamin that I take contains fish liver oil. Its also a source of vitamin A. As far as fat is concerned I still drink whole milk. Are there any other sources of fat that I should consider?

Thanks,
Steve

My current weight is now 228 I have begun to integrate some weightlifting into my excercise program. I feel the burn in my pecs and arms. My legs don't seem to bothered by the squats but they have always been big. I have some before and after pics that I will try to post to show my progress. I am thrilled with the results that I have had thus far. I'm more impressed by how addictive working out has become. I worked at my job for fifteen hours yesterday and still managed to put in my hour workout when I got home. I am amazed at how much energy I have. I used to drink alot of soda for the caffeine but since I began the diet I went cold turkey on the pop. I hope that more people realize what a healthy diet and excercise program can do for them. I appreciate the support and comments that I have recieved on this site. I may need some assistance in the future with developing a good weight lifting program. I want to have some definition, but not be overly developed. If you have any other suggestions or comments let me know. Thanks again for all your help.

More Weight Lost

Hey can anyone tell me why I am still loosing 5 pounds a week. I weighed this morning and still lost another 5 pounds. Should I be concerned about losing weight this fast. I have seen an amazing transformation in my body since I started this diet. Im tickled to death with the results, but I am concerned that I may be losing more than just the fat. If anyone has any suggestions or comments let me know.

Thanks,
Steve
