A decision to Change

Hello all, I'm new to this forum, and I would really appreciate some help from the community here.

I am a 16 year old guy who weighs roughly 215 pounds, and is about 5'11. I have been overweight my whole life and it hasn't really affected me until I got into high school. As some of you may or may not remember, the kids at school can be very brutal. It can really take a toll on your self-esteem, and no one likes being picked on. I guess because my self confidence is so low, it makes me a very shy person, which is something i hope to overcome.

I have made the decision to try and change my life into something that I can be proud of. Since i have never really stuck to anything before, I want to really make an effort to stick to this.

My goal weight is between 160-170. If you guys have any suggestions, tips, encouragement etc.. to help me on my journey, it would mean so much to me. I have seen some of the absolutely amazing transformations that all you have gone through, and I hope to be like you guys. I have also noticed how helpful and supportive this community is, so i really hope you guys can help me out.

Besides my goal weight, another thing that would be unbelievably awesome would be to run a marathon. This would signify that I had really made it and give me something that I can always be proud of.

Sorry for the long post, thank you if you read it all. And lastly i would like to thank you guys in advance for any of your valuable knowledge.

Welcome to the forum. If you could tell us what you are doing now in the way of diet and exercise, we could probably give you some more specific advice.

Other than that, I would say read the sticky threads. There is a lot of good information there. Cut way back on the junk food, and start counting your calories using an online diet journal, or calorie counting software like .

Welcome, and we all remember how cruel kids can be. But you have the desire to change and that is what will get you there. You have to focus your attention on your goal and get in the zone for change. I know you can do it and anything is possible when you put your mind to it. It's true. I'm 86lbs down and still have a ways to go but I'm going to get there. I'd try to exercise even for 30 mins each day if that's all you can and cut out any junk food and eat as good as you can with a treat day once a week. I wish you luck on your journey. Keep in mind that even if you have a bad day or choice, never give up.
