I sooooooo feel you on this one Scrappy....and this is my take on it.
When you have been non dieting for ahwile and then when that lil something "clicks",..and you decide to diet and take control, its a big rush, you are pumped. Its this determined mind set, and nothing can shake you. You are so strict and watch everything you put in your mouth. Mainly because you have to be soooo conscious of what you are doing.
Then real life settles in, and you eat things that you may not have at the beginning. Sometimes its hard to make the fine line between,..enjoying life a lil and making sure you dont deprive yourself too much,.... to a full blown "fall off the wagon and cant get back up".
If you have dieted before, you know its easy to start the diet but following through to the end is the hard part....and when you see yourself
missing a weigh in,..saying to yourself "oh this one lil cheat means nothing,...I am doing so well"....missing a few work outs, you fear that you are going to follow previous dieting history.
To me its all about that fear of loosing control,....and not being able to maintain the momentum never mind as a new lifestyle, just even reaching the goal weight. That fear is in the back of my head all the time, so for me no matter what I feel about the diet, I weigh in, write here, and it keeps me focused on the goal, and I feel as long as I am doing that I wont totally fall off the wagon, the wagon may slow down but its still rolling.
To think that we wont indulge once ever,...or at least while on the diet is unrealistic. While on the other hand diets end by making lil slip ups here and there until it becomes more consistent. Thus there needs to be a happy middle, life with boundaries. Eat M&M's... one small bag per week. Not a bag everyday.
I think it works to plan the indulgence,... for example ...(friday night you go out for cheese cake with some girlfriends and you have corporated it into your diet plan) or, (hubby brings home a cheese cake and you eat half it at midnight),..
Both instance you ate the cheese cake,..one instance you had control, and the other you didnt.
By reading what your journal ,..you are being more realistic, you are consistent and found your flow,....and your most importantly you are conscious of what you do...and its working! What you are experiencing is a natural progression of the dieting. Your still in contol.
