5x5 Deadlifts!

Thanks. I'm in DOMS city today. It was rough. I'm glad I went though. I suspect I'll probably lose a bit of weight with this routine seeing as I eat half of what I used to, but that's good. I'll take that cut that I've been wanting to be on forever.

So, I didn't get in yesterday. I was entirely too sore from Saturday. I'm hoping the DOMS overload was due to my lengthy downtime, but if I'm this sore getting back into it, then I'm going to have to retool my routine, and separate body parts on Saturday and Sunday. Perhaps back and legs Saturday and Chest and arms on Sunday. I'll see how next Saturday goes.

That would fit right into what I want seeing as I wanted to shoot for a lower carb diet.

I didn't have it in me last week to touch this. I have zero interest in mucking up your journal or pushing an agenda, so unless you ask, Justin, I won't write another word beyond this post. But, I've done a great deal of reading about this, have eaten moderately low carb for a couple of years, and have been pleased to see some very nice lab results on that battery of tests one gets with a physical exam. I feel very good eating this way, my energy for workouts/life is good, and my weight is what I want it to be. Not to say it is the perfect diet for everyone as I'm totally convinced there is no such thing, but it works for a lot of people and if you have any concerns about insulin resistance, type II diabetes, or heart disease, it is well worth considering. In my case, I dropped the pasta but kept the potatoes :D

Thanks, I really appreciate your input, and don't be afraid to make suggestions or give me new ideas. I've been into fitness to learn as well as practice :) . My wife is a Type I diabetic, so me being on the type of diet that she needs to be on as well will help her greatly. It will be hard for me to give up my carbs, seeing as I could pretty much eat pasta with cheese and potatoes in it, but I need to cut back and if me doing that will help her, then I'm all for it.

Anything I can do to help her out. You know the old saying, "Happy wife, happy life".

I'm spreading out body parts this weekend. I got in for Chest, Shoulders and Tri's yesterday. Later on today, I'll get in for Legs, back and bi's.

Decline Bench - 135lbs 3x8
Decline Bench - 185lbs 3x3(I know that's a low range, but I'm still easing back in to it.)
Incline Bench - 95lbs 3x9
Over Head Press - 65lbs 3x9
Over Head Press - 105lbs 3x5
Dumb Bell Inline Bench - 80lbs 3x6
Bent Over Triceps Extentions(Straight Bar) - 60lbs 3x9
Skull Crushers - 60lbs 3x7
Dumb Bell Fly - 50lbs 3x7
Cable Fly - 60lbs 3x12
Overhead Cable Tricep Extention - 60lbs 3x9

It was a pretty good session, considering I got it all done in an hour. Spreading out body parts will be good too, because I can hit low rep and high rep ranges in the same day instead of going in sore the next day to do everything again. I'm thinking of getting some dumb bells for the house and throwing in just some arms at home on Wedesdays. Being long limbed, having an extra arm day in the middle of the week would help out, plus a couple sets of heavy dumb bells won't take up much space.

Yesterdays session was good. I would have liked to dead lift, but I'm starting to think, for the sake of frying my lower back, I can't squat heavy and dead heavy on the same day. This is something I'll have to sort on while on my weekend routine.

Squat - 135lbs 3x8
Squat - 185lbs 3x5
Squat - 205lbs 3x3
Precor Rower - 270lbs 3x3
Precor Rower - 180lbs 3x6
Precor Rower - 90lbs 3x12
Precor Pull Down - 180lbs 3x9
Leg Press(yeah, yeah, yeah) - 270lbs 3x9
Leg Press - 360lbs 3x5
Barbell Row - 135lbsm 3x9
High Pull - 60lbs 3x9
Barbell Curl - 40lbs 3x9
Barbell Curl - 60lbs 3x5
Barbell Curl - 30lbs 3x12

I was all over the place with my rep ranges. Light to heavy, heavy to light. Tried to mix it up a little. I'm still trying to figure how I want everything to be. I'd have a better shot at heavy deads on Saturday with chest and heavy squats on Sunday. There's no way I'm heavy squatting on Saturday then going for heavy deads the day after that.

Well, I'm in the market for a new job, so hopefully my weekend rotation won't last long. This place is running me into the ground. 10 hours a day with little breaks is rough.

Hey Justin,
Rather than stick a big post in the middle of your journal, I decided it might be better to put it in my own as that felt less "spammy". It is post #137, the most recent thing in my journal. If you have questions or want to know more, just ask.

I've tracked on some websites now and then and my carbs typically come in at about 30-35% (seems to depend upon what fruit is in season!) while protein is about 20-28% (depends on weekend leftovers).

You better post a workout in order to stop all this playing fast and loss with words! No wait, that's fast and lose with words! Argh!

I should have held off on the headache remark until now. I just finished the first battery of tests for my local police department. I'm not going for an officer job, but another job within the department. I still have to go through the same testing though. If all goes well, and I pass everything, I will be working for the department in June.

Fingers crossed for you, Justin. Much easier to put up with an awful job if you know there is an end in site.
