40 mile run

Hi i recently entered a 40 mile run/walk but after 10 miles at a steady jog my groin was in serious pain and i couldn't continue. The event was for charity and i wish to participate next year, but i want to finish this time lol.

My question is i need some help on getting a training program together to increase my long distance jogging stamina and ability. I have a year to get into shape, which i presume is more than enough.

I am reasonably healthy, i weigh 168pound and i am 5 foot 9". I am quite big built so i will be needing some knee supports but other than that i am fine.

Does anyone know how i should start training and how i can progress to reach my goal of a 40 mile run.

Any help would be fantastic
