I am a 5'4" woman entering my 25th year here in 2006. Throughout high school and college, my weight has been a roller coaster. Junior year in high school, I was 149. Then Senior year, I was 135. By Christmas in my freshman year of college, I weighed 165. Back down to 150 Sophomore year. Trained for a biathlon Junior year and at peak was 138. Slowly, over the past 4 years, my weight has plateaued to about 155. I don't like it, it doesn't fit my frame, but I'm become so used to it that I'm afraid my body won't be able to change. Not to mention, I am not very good at organizing my food into the correct caloric intake. Help! I'd love to lose 25 pounds in my 25th year... and I wanted to join a place like this where I could talk about the struggles and hardships I will undoubtedly endure. I'm kind of lost as to where to start. I don't mind exercising, so I'll incorporate that back into my life, but it's the food and caloric intake plus loss of calories due to exercise that throws me. I feel like there's some perfect mathematical formula that some people know that I do not... Help!

Hi hun! Loosing weight comes down to calories in vs calories out. Eat less, move more! If you want a number, i'm a fan of the 1200 cal 'diet' (although I plan on eating like that for the rest of my life).

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!!

start a diary here in the diary section and keep yourself accountable for all you eat and all your exercise. then we shall critique you to death and you will probably become sick of us! :D

Hi New Bride,

Back in the forum after a bit of a break, which has seen me put more weight on..... but yes it all boils down to how much we eat and how little we exercise. Have just started at a great new gym with a friend (helps the motivation), and the diary does make you accountable, as you may exercise and think hey I can eat more, when you count it all up I am often surprised that I have eaten so much.

Check out fitday.com It will help you make food choices wisely based on the nutritional content. It will also help you monitor your intake and calorie burning as well. As for the amount of calories you take in, RedNeckWoman posted the list from the Biggest Loser Plan and it seems to match what I've found at other health based websites.
