20 pounds in 4 months

Hi everyone.

Right now i'm 175 pounds at 5'6" and 33 years old. I am what people would called big boned and muscular. Just to give you an idea, in my teens i was actively a part of my national tennis team, training 5 days a week, and i weighed in at 150 pounds. 5 months ago i lost a baby at 5 months into the pregnancy, and am now ready to get back into shape.

Time is a very valuable resource for me, as i have a full time job and a 4 year old daughter, which keep me very busy. Finances are also limited, so that hinders gym membership a bit. I do have access to a treadmill and freeweights, and being that i live in the tropics, outdoor training is easy.

Please help me put together a programme whereby i can achieve a weightloss of 20 pounds by October.

Thanks, and keep up the good work.

Carolann.

HI and welcome to the forums. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. My heart goes out to you and your family.

I came here completely new and not knowing much either but in the week I have been here I have learned LOTS so read around on the boards and you will find some valualbe information.

GOOD LUCK!!

Hi Carolann, Chickyp is right - the forums are full of good advice.
But, here's just a little bit of advice from me.
I have lost 16lbs since January - so that is just about the same timescale that you are looking at. I am 40, 5'2'' short and now weigh in at 115lbs.
I am not a sporty person and found it all very hard initially. I have a cross trainer which I went on religiously everyday bar one each week. I was reluctant to begin with - only doing 10 minutes!! I increased the minutes everyday over the course of a two or three weeks until I was doing 40 minutes daily.
I changed my diet totally - I cut out all junk food and alcohol. I keep a food diary - even now - logging everything that I've eaten. I also weigh and measure myself once a week. Now, I believe that is the key - every week losing a pound or two and comparing my weight to previous weeks really inspires me.
I still keep my diet as healthy as poss - a treat here and there, but not too much. Previously, I was quite happy to eat crisps, chocolates etc whilst slouching in front of the TV. I substituted all snacks for Ryvita and low fat spreads. Also, I changed my eating hours - I now have my main meal during the day as opposed to the evening. If I get the evening munchies, than it's Ryvita or a bowl of Special K.
I think it's basically re educating yourself and changing your habits.
Believe me, I was a huge junk food fan - a lazy cook opting for convenience foods rather than cooking healthy meals. I've had to be firm with myself because at the end of the day no one else could do it for me. The weight was making me depressed, but after four months of HARD work, I feel it has been worth it.
Hope this helps, but remember - everyone is different. I think the treadmill will be your hugest ally - be firm with yourself.

Damn bud. Sorry to hear the bad news. Welcome to the forum and all the best in the future :) As far as working out. Just start small and work your way up again. Maybe jog twice/three times a week? Keep to clean foods and stick to the right amount of calories and you will see improvments :)

Best of luck~

Sorry to hear abt your loss.. my heart goes out to you and your family!

and about losing 20lbs by october, it won't be that hard you just have to be dedicated and true to yourself.. I am on what they call a 1000 calorie a day diet... in my opinion to lose weight you can still eat what you want just limit how much you eat of everything. me i have a lil notebook i carry in my purse and everytime i eat something during the day i write down what it was and how many calories it had in it. that way helps you to remember how much you have eaten.....I also workout at least 5-6 days a week.. it doesn't have to be something hardcore.. 1 day i'll run for so many minutes(start out with what your comfortable with but make sure you break a sweat), then the next day do strength such as: push ups, crunches, leg lifts, dum bell weights, etc... just try to make sure you always break a sweat when you work out. I started this on march 29th and to this day i have lost 21lbs.. so it does work you just can't give up.. have someone to workout with you if need be, cause you always need to be motivated. I hope this helps.. let me know what you think..
