2 weeks in and frustrated....

So I decided to rededicate myself to losing weight. My weight had ballooned 100 lbs in 10 years, and I managed to lose 70 of it before the holidays. I slacked off and regained about 20 lbs.

Its been 2 weeks since I started writing down everything I eat and working out...an hour a day on the stationary bike, only taking in about 1200-1500 calories. The scale keeps moving, down 3 pounds, up 3 pounds, but never any more than that....its happening daily and very frustrating.

Anyone have any experience or advice on this?

I can imagine thats frusterating. Are you still keeping track of cals??? Its not really possible to be eating the same amts of cals but it goes down one day and up the next..doestn' make sense??? Maybe your scale is bad??

An hour of cardio and low cals should absoutley yeild results. I think given how much your exercising, 1200 cals is too low but I don't think that would give you your up and down issue....

can you give us any more details??

ok. My BMR is 2155, my RMR for a sedentary job is 2565. I am doing a stationary bike, which estimates that I burn about 1000 calories in an hour going for 15 miles.

I write every calorie down. I make sure not to exceed 1500 on average, meaning one day I may only have 1200, the next day 1600, etc.

I am thinking about doubling my cardio, doing a 5 mile run in the morning and 15 mile bike at night. But I don't want to get injured.

The scale isn't bad. I have 2 of them, one is digital and one is not. Both seem to yo-yo.

What else would help you to know?

Just curious ...are you weighing yourself the same time every day & in the same clothes?
That could make a difference.
It may be TMI (Sorry, if so), but I weight myself every day..... same time/first thing in the morning, in just undies, and just after using the bathroom. I also make sure the scale sits in as close to possible as the same spot , and I stand in as close to possible as the same spot on the scale.

Simply for accuracy in my own mind. Yes, I am a perfectionist. LOL

Dane-What is the proper ratio for the calorie range I am following?

Rachael-Same time, every morning...and wearing less than what you are.

This has also happened to me. Do you weigh your food? I found that when I weighed my food instead of just "eye-balling" it I lost more weight and was able to get out of a rut. Often times we are eating way more than we think we are if we don't weigh it out first. Also be sure to drink LOTS of water, not only will it help curve hunger but it will also keep water retention down (if you can believe that lol) so you will have less water weight on the scale :D

I can suggest would be to work on building lean muscle as lean muscle burns fat and calories much faster.you should try to bally push ups.it's very fastest way to lose weight.

^Great advice, I can almost guarantee you are eating more than you think if you aren't weighing your food and you might have to have days where you eat more calories to get your metabolism going again.

Also, do you lift weights? Packing on muscle is a great way to boost metabolism and drop weight!

I havent been lifting yet. I used to lift alot in college, but now with kids and a FT job, I am lucky to get the cardio.

Generally, how fast can you add muscle? I was never able to really notice any size gains when I lifted, only strength and stamina. I may have been overtraining back then too, as I was spending 1.5 hours a day, 4-5 days a week in the weight room.

Does anyone have a good 4 day weight training routine that takes an hour to complete that they would be willing to share? Or links to some good routines? Thanks!

hMMMM...... no I don't have the information you're looking for, BUT... in my internet wanderings, I did note there is a power lifting forum out there. I don't know where it is,.. but a google search will probably turn it up for you.... (I don't think I'm allowed to link other forums here anyway)

If you get a chance please read Bob Greene: The Best Life Diet. It explains in detail why you are up and down in your weight gain, which is normal by the way. What I can tell you is to drink more water before and during your exercises. After my exercising I drink a glass of chocolate milk and continue with more water, but not so that I drown.I do not calorie count or weigh anything but myself. Read that book that I mentioned as it is one of the very bestdefenses in losing weight the right way.

Good Luck.

Sorry you are feeling stuck at your weight level. Do you eat at night....after 6pm? If so, try not eating after 6pm every day for a week. I bet you will lose at least 3 pounds.
Good luck!

Maybe Keep a record of the foods you are eating to see which foods are helping the scales to move downward. If you still visit the gym, they should be able to help you with a good weight training routine. They usually supply a chart to help you keep up with your routine. Just asked the attendant at the gym.

Good Luck to you!

Ok...an update.

After rigorously documenting everything I put in my mouth, exercising 5-7 days a week for 6 weeks, I have finally shed 15lbs! It seems to come off in spurts, with my weight maintaining a level for 4-7 days and then bam...2 lbs gone. My weight seems to have stopped fluctuating up and down from day to day, so thats a plus.

So...hopefully I can drop another 45 lbs by October.

Hey that's great that you've been having success! Even if your weight was still fluctuating each day, remember that is normal.

Keep it up!
