2 protein questions

first one - does having a protein shake in the morning increase metabolism as much as eating a normal breakfast

second question - can having a protein shake be considered as a breakfast by itself (sorta blends in with the first question)

thnx

increase it as much as a normal meal, i wouldnt think so. it takes more to digest solid food than to digest a liquid

a protein shake shouldnt replace a regular meal. its used in addition to a meal.

I wouldn't replace a solid breakfast with a protein shake. Just my personal experience, I felt hungry faster and had a hard time waking up without the carb energy. Carbs in the morning are very important for jump starting your body. You've been starving your body for an entire night it needs the energy.

I'm not supporting Lucky Charms or anything but Oatmeal, fruit, eggs things of that nature would be good.

There's a lot of info available concerning meal timing in regards to P+C and P+F meals. Here is a great website to check out for any nutritional needs:

Hey stalefish,

to answer your first question....i am not aware if protein by itself increases metabolism, my guess is that it doesnt, but if you do not have at least 20g of protein for breakfast, you will have hyperglycemia (high insulin) for the whole day, that is why it is important to have protein at breakfast.

2nd question---protein should be a PART of a complete breakfast, so having a protein shake alone does not qualify...however if you are looking to lose some weight, a good substitute would be a meal replacement bar or drink.

Good luck,

Roman

i know on some protein containers, it says "do not use as a meal replacement". i think because ppl were trying to use them the same as a slim fast or something like that.
