Hi everyone I am a binge eater and, having kidded myself for years that I was a normal size I have finally seen sense, got on the scales, and vowed to beat the bulge!

I weigh 19 stones and ideally should be 9-10 stone so a lot to go but i'm gonna take it in small steps and hopefully can get some support on here.

My main problem is that I work day and night and eat takeaways every day as they are convenient. I am going to start preparing healthy food in advance, so eating better will also be convenient. My other problem is that because I work so much I have no time for proper socialising so get lonely and binge eat when I am off, I need to find something else to do now!

for your last problem work out...

Hi Janet,
I think if you just start by taking small steps you'll soon be on your way.
Maybe a small walk each day to start off or whenever you can fit it in after/before work?
I cut out fizzy drinks and snacks at the beginning and really tried to stick to just 3 healthy meals a day.
It's so hard to break the cycle of binge eating, but you can do it, just try and be strong, and remember that the binging just makes you more unhappy.

Best of luck mate, I'll be thinking of you,

Jess :)

It almost sounds clichéd but this is a really great one to get you going, indeed- I've really only been at it 3 weeks or so for now but have already seen over 10lbs drop just by stopping random snacks through the day, but sticking to a breakfast, lunch and dinner- also thinking somewhat about portion size too, but still getting enough. It really doesn't have to be drastic, especially when you're talking about a huge reduction in weight which is going to be a long term effort anyway.

Best of luck to you.

That's about as complicated as weight loss needs to be. I started about a year ago at 253lbs and dropped about 60 lbs.

I cut out soda's completely (maybe had 8-10 in a year) and cut back drastically on processed foods. I learn't to cook good food from a cookbook.

You can prepare pretty much any meal yourself with about 1/2 the calories of the frozen/processed equivalent.

You just need to apply common sense. Don't add cheese to everything, easy on the fatty cuts of meat and don't overdo the cookies/chips/candy.

I think I dropped 45lbs in 4-6 months and then about 15lbs in the last 6 months. Much slower but I've been doing a lot more resistance work and have been more concerned with maintaining/building LBM.

At first I hit the cardio a lot and didn't put a huge effort into resistance. That meant I'd lose about equal amounts of muscle and fat. Now I want to preserve muscle and if my BF% is accurate I've lost approx 15lbs of fat and no muscle since about April. I'd like it to be faster but am broadly content with my progress.

Changing diet is everything. I honestly believe that the best weight loss/fitness tool is a cookbook.

16lb off so far :)

Hi so I thought i'd update this. I've been at the diet 3 weeks now and i've lost 16lb so far. I know most of this will be waterloss and little fat, but I have made drastic differences to my diet.

I decided to go cold turkey and give up on swet treats completely as once I have one my motivation slips away and I end up on a sugar binge. So far I haven't slipped up at all. I've had no crisps, no fried food, no 'bad' foods at all, and to be honest it is a struggle, but when I see how far i've come i'm spurred on, and I do believe this can last long term as I have found alternatives.

During my diet I have been out drinking, been out for meals and I have still lost weight through chossing better options than I would have previously chosen. I used to drink cider and cocktails, now I drink Vodka diet coke. When I used to go out for dinner I would have lasagne and chips or something like that, now I have chunky winter soups, or meat and vegetables.

I'm hoping to lose another 14lbs of fat between now and the new year, I will be at the gym too so hopefully that will help whip me into shape, the biggest motivation I have is staring the new year a lighter, healthier person, who doesn't hide when camera's come out because they're embarassed about how they look! Lets hope I can do it :)
