1200 Calorie Diet Club

I agree that 1000 cals is a bit low--in reality I always go a little over my limit whatever kind of a diet I'm on, so I've found that by shooting for 1000 cals I have a much better chance of actually finishing the day at 1200 cals. If I shoot for 1200 I end up eating more like 1600.

Right now I average about 200 cals for breakfast (usually oatmeal...more filling than cold cereal for some reason) 400 for lunch (veggie burger, etc) 400 for dinner (little bit of pasta, some dairy, mostly protein) and 150-200 for snacks (fruit, lowfat snack foods, and those evil little weight watchers eclaires that make you want to eat about 500 of them).

I do about 20 minutes of calisthenics a day, 100 minutes of running per week, and I ride my horse most days for 30 minutes or so. So by the most reliable calculations I could find I'm burning 1500 cals for basal body operations and 700 cals for activities every day...which gives me like a 1000 calorie debt. phew!

Something else that REALLY works--I got out of the habit of oversnacking at night (pre-diet I probably put away about 600 calories between dinner and bedtime...eeek!) by using tooth-whitening strips in the evening. It takes 30 minutes for each strip (top and bottom) so you physically cannot put anything in your mouth for that hour, which used to be my big post-dinner TV pig-out hour. After a couple of weeks you have white teeth and you don't feel like you have to snack all night anymore!

If you are going to be eating so few calories make sure your diet is well balanced. Also, make sure you take a multi-vitiman daily. I like One-a-day Weight Smart. I have lost 4 pounds in 4 weeks using FitDay.com to keep track of my calories eaten and burned. I need to loose 45 more pounds by Dec. 31 so I'm right on track. (sw:179, cw:175, gw: 130)
 
How often does everyone here weigh themselves? I've been weighing daily and seeing little change, which is really discouraging. Is once a week better?
 
I totally understand about always "over-achieving" (in a bad way) your calorie goals - so that makes complete sense to me! =)

I used to weigh myself once a week - always on the same day, at the same time - early in the morning, after using the bathroom, neked, before eating or drinking anything... but since I got back into the habit of watching what I eat, I have been overly compulsive and check everyday... and you are right - it is depressing... So I really need to put the scale away and only get it out once a week!

The consistency of when you do it is important... otherwise there may be other factors that might falsely increase your weight.
 
Hey... I was wondering? Can i please join in this too? The diet i was on before ive kinda given up on.. It was too radical for my likeing and ive put practically all the weight back on. :(

Sorry Tammy You Never Brought Up The Bl Dvd And I Never Volunteered To Tell Ya I Was Slacking Lol But I Was Still Losing! Hehehe See This Is A Tell All Thread And Ooops I Told On Myself ****busted**** Ok I Am Going With Katies Advice I Did Have Way To Many Cals Left And With Eating 2 Smart Ones I Didnt Get All My Cals In! They Were 290 A Piece So 580 Is What I Had! So Total Was 1050! Had 64 Oz Of Water Though! I Will Do Better Today!
 
How do you find out how much calories everything is? I only have a rough idea.

So far i have had:
Large cup of tea with a little bit of semi skimmed milk
middilish bowl of sugar free swiss style muslie (sp?) and semi skimmed milk.

I just wanted to say that is is great that you two are supporting eachother in this.

I do see some big no-no's in what most here are doing, but I am trying to not come in and change everything for everyone as I realise one must earn respect to be taken seriously.

Great job though and keep your eye on your goals and you will get there...

As for me, I'm pretty proud of myself! I stuck to the old diet yest for the first time in a long time! I plan on making better choices today though and totally keeping away from the easter baskets!

I'm going to get in ALOT of excersize w/ all the yard work i'm doing today!!!

ugh ugh ugh. I got up this morning and tried to find a cute outfit to see out-of-town family coming to visit today...NOTHING looks decent. I wound up just wearing a maternity shirt that I bought last year by mistake, because it's the only thing that doesn't show how much everything bulges. So today so far I've had:

Slimfast bar--220
rice cakes--90
 
aww poor thing, I know how ya feel, been there before. Just keep your chin up hun, don't get deppressed b/c that makes your weight loss efforts even harder. Just be glad you are making a difference today!
