106 Pounds in 31 Weeks and going strong

I have now lost 106 pounds in 31 weeks. I started at 405 pounds on 2/17/2012 and I am now at 299 pounds as of 9/13/2012. It took me a little over 6 months to lose the first 100 pounds. It feels great to be under 300 pounds. I feel like I look like a different person in the mirror. I had to buy some new clothes because almost nothing from before fits me now. My next short term goal is to get my BMI under 40 (I'm 6-0 and currently at 41). Here are some updates before and after photos. For exercise, I do mostly swimming (lap swim), walking/hiking, and lifting weights. I try to exercise about 2-3 hours a day six days a week. I also track my food consumption in an Excel file. My goal is to get below 200 pounds. It might take me another year or so to get there but I am committed to living healthy lifestyle.

Btw, love your shirt preferences! That Spidey shirt is wicked, haha

Congrats again!

Thanks Frogged. My boys ages 8 and 6 are really into super heroes lately. I had an ingrown toenail removed last week so I wasn't able to exercise for a few days. I lifted weights today which went well. I am now lifting weights three times a week for about an hour each lifting session.

Thanks, I feel good.

Update: I have now lost 113 pounds. I am now at 292 pounds and my BMI is under 40 (39.6). I am no longer morbidly obese! I am still "severly obese" or obese class II but getting my BMI under 40 is a big milestone for me. My goal is to get under 200 pounds. So far, I don't have that much loose skin. I drink lots of water and have been doing weight training, walking, and lap swim. My goal is to lose about 1% each week. I also had my blood pressure checked last week and it's in the normal range (114/70). Six months ago, I had prehypertension with my blood pressure at 136/82 and was close to stage 1 hypertension.

Hi First let me say I am very happy for your success! that is very wonderful!I

I weigh between 297 and 304... I have three different scales and they all tell me something different. anyway, I was wondering if you started seeing results in the first two weeks of your workout.. because Ive been working out for 2 weeks now about 12 days and still no weight loss...I eat fairly well.. no junk.. hardly any sugars. Yes, I noticed results my first two weeks. I lost 20 pounds my first month but keep in mind, I was over 400 pounds. I keep a detailed Excel file where I track my weekly weight. I also calculate my BMI, pounds lost per week, total pounds lost, percent lost per week, and percentage total lost. I cut way back on my caloric intake and started walking. I started walking may 30 minutes a day for exercise but I have since increased that to about 2-3 hours of exercise a day. I try to mix up my exercise routine by doing things differently. Walking and lap swim are still my "bread and butter" for aerobic exercise. I think changing the type of exercise you do can also helps with plateaus (or so I have read). I have also started playing tennis. I'm thinking about buying a bike. Up to this point, I was too heavy for a "normal" bicycle. With my weight lower, I can already do so much more for exercise.

Great job, I hope that a lot of other members have read this and are feeling a bit inspired!

did you follow a specific meal plan? I'm currently 287 and my ultimate goal is to reach 200 or less but my hardest thing is eating the right things.

No, I don't have a specific meal plan. I just try to use smaller portions with more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. I still go out to eat once or twice a week for pizza or Mexican food but still try to use moderate portions. I'm trying to make lifestyle choices that I can keep for the rest of my life.

Here is a typical food diary on a good day.

Breakfast:

Oatmeal: 160

Banana, strawberries: 130

Subtotal: 290

Snack:

banana: 100

Lunch:

turkey sandwich and provolone on whole wheat: 300

apple, tomato: 130

Subtotal: 430

Dinner:

grilled chicken breast: 700

baked potato (1.5) nonfat sour cream, BBQ sauce: 300

green pepper, carrots, tomato, cucumbers, nonfat milk: 200

Subtotal: 1200

Total: 2,020

This is about 2,000 calories per day. I was eating around 1200-1400 a day but was feeling dizzy, weak and even fainted. I then increased my caloric intake and feel like I have a lot more energy. I have found I am actually losing more and feel better when I eat more calories since I am exercising a lot (2-3 hours a day). I try to fill up on vegetables at dinner until I am full. I also drink lots of water throughout the day.

Update: I have now lost a total of 117 pounds since 2/17/2012 as of 10/15/2012. I am now at 288 pounds. I feel great. I added weight training to my exercise routine about 2 months ago. I have not been losing as fast as I was but I'm building more muscle, strength, and endurance. As long as I continue to progress with my weight loss goals, I'm fine with that. I have also lost about 13 inches in my waist (from 60 inches to 47 inches).

Here is an updated photo.

Here is my monthly weight chart that shows my progress.

2/17/2012: 405
3/13/2012: 385

Thanks.,

I went to the doctor yesterday for an annual physical. It had been a few years since I went to the doctor for a physical. I had blood work done for a cholesterol test and other screening. Everything from my blood work came back normal. My blood pressure is also normal. I talked about my weight loss progress and I showed the doctor my weight loss chart. He said that going slow and steady is the way to do it. I am happy with my weight loss progress so far. I just need to continue with my exercise and weight loss goals. I am now at 282 pounds. I feel great. I have now lost 123 pounds in 8 months.

Dude, congrats!!!! You're doing awesome!!! You are making an investment in both your quality and quantity of life by making lifestyle changes you can stick with. Just remind yourself that you have worked hard and accomplished a lot already. You will continue to succeed!!

I found out I'm diabetic a little over a month ago, so I'm making lifestyle changes myself. I had to obtain an education about diabetes first, and now I'm exercising and strictly planning my diet. I started at 306 per my scales and am now at 273. Down 33 pounds in about 6 weeks. You have definitely inspired me to do what I need to do for all of the right reasons. Thanks for posting and I'll be following your progress. I hope I can mirror your success!!!

@legalwriter - that's awesome that your bloodwork all came back normal! That is one of the best things that can result from weight loss!
