Approach to excess skin

I thought this would be the most appropriate forum to post this in.

After losing 27 kilograms over the last couple of years via cardio and regular weights training it did leave some excess around the mid-section. I wondered for a while whether it was fat and skin but last week doc confirmed to me it is skin saying there was no fat at all and that is just the way my body is built. He also mentioned surgery to get rid of it but it would leave horrible scars.

What I want to know is how I should be approaching this then. The rest of my body looks fantastic as a result of the last two and a half years working out, but there is just this blob in the middle. I know sometimes people just have certain body characteristics but am I right to just accept this or is there a way to get rid of it. With consistent solid core training in my regime as well it has developed into a solid wall and it would be disappointing if it were just excess skin preventing it from showing. I have heard people saying doing cardio will make things worse along with doing twists and other oblique exercises making things worse and giving a bigger waist. Or is the doc even correct on this one? Would appreciate any opinions.

How old are you? Younger people have more elastic skin that is more amenable to tightening. I don't think there is much you can do other than wait and hope.

Z...

First of all... Congrats on the weight loss!! Very cool indeed :)

Secondly... define "horrible scars."

Surgical skin removal now does not leave you looking like Frankenstein :)

This is a trade off. You'll either end up with a scar that can be low enough to be hidden under a pair of boxers or boardshorts OR you live with the excess.

I lost 68 kilograms (150lb)...so yeah... I know this... I'm right there with you.
