I need some advice

I'm about 5'8" - 210 pounds. My BMI is 25-30

My diet isn't the best, but it's ok...there is definitely room for improvement. I know I need to go to the Nutrition forum.

I hate running, so I try and fast-walk on an incline with my treadmill. Is it ok as long as I get the bpm where I need to?

I just bought some dumb bells, and I know I should lift before doing cardio. Should I stretch before lifting? How many reps should I do when I lift? Are there any stickies that offer advice for what workouts to do with dumb bells?

My target weight is 190 & to be toned, but not veins popping out.

I'm sure you can convert lots of workouts to using dumbbells. And yes, if you go to the Weight Training section, you will find a bunch of good professionally made routines.

Walking fast can be good cardio as long as you get your heart rate up. However, you may want to consider throwing some HIIT in there once or twice a week.

Remember, though, diet is the most important.

Ride On is right on (lol) your diet is the most important. Let's see what that looks like. List what you eat on a typical day.

Fast food - once every week or two. This is down from four times a week when I was going to school a few months ago. I know I need to totally drop that.

Soda - maybe once a month, twice if we hit a movie. Also trying to drop both, seeing as we're not working anymore.

Meat - I'm a carnivore, I have to have meat at least once a day. I've been trying to eat more white meat than red meat, I know it causes problems with your colon if you eat to much red meat. I don't really care to know what problems either. I'll eat hamburger meat & steak 2 times/month, chicken the rest of the time, rarely do I eat fish.

Pizza - about two every month

Water - I've been drinking 5 glasses of water a day, there's about 2 cups in a glass.

I don't eat very many vegetables, but I love Potatoes, Cucumbers, Tomatoes and Onions...Asparagus is ok. I know I can incorporate those into my diet. My problem is that I don't eat Carrots or Broccoli raw, and when you cook them, a lot of the nutrients come out of them.

I don't drink alcohol, smoke, or chew.

Do you guys have a thread dedicated to which foods you eat on certain days, or does it depend on the person? I probably need to burn around 3000 calories/day to lose weight.

I'm thinking of doing something like this:

8am:
2 Eggs w/ cheese
few slices of sandwich meat
1 cup of milk

9am:
2 cups of water

10am:
weights for 40 minutes
cardio for 20 minutes

12:00:
oatmeal
sandwich with whole grain bread, tomato, meat
1 cup of milk

2:00:
salad with spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumber, cheese, a little pepper, no dressing, more meat
2 cups of water

4:00:
with chicken
2 cups of water

6:00:
weights & cardio again

8:00:
Chicken..with a bit of garlic, some rice on the side

maybe some bananas/strawberry's if I'm still hungry later on

How about these dumbbell workouts? sport-fitness-advisor.com/dumbbellexercises.html
