Nutrition is key.

I'm trying to lose about 20 pounds this summer. I work at a fast food restaurant and it's packed on quite a bit of fat around my stomach, and I'd like to get rid of it.

I basically need to know a few things:

-What should I eat in a typical breakfast, lunch, supper.
-What should a snack on, if I do get hungry.
-And other things to avoid/do more of.

~thanks

1. You should have a balanced meal of protein, carbs, and fats. Keep it clean.
2. Fruits and veggies.
3. Start slow and cut 1 bad thing out a week. Soon enough you will be eating a clean healthy diet and losing weight.

Being that you work in a fast food restauranthere are some tips for you wheneating out. If you are planning on eating out make sure you are familiar with the menu. If necessary call the restaurant and ask about salads, grilled meats etc. Don't be afraid to ask how food is prepared, contents in sauces etc. When you arrive at the restaurant don't be afraid to ask for your food to be prepared in a way that you can still follow your diet. If you are attending a party and know that there isn't going to be food there that is diet friendly, take food that you can eat and discreetly add your food to your plate. It is easy to take yogurt, fresh fruit, raw veggies, fiber filled crackers etc. to a party. If your hostess is truly your friend she will not be offended,\.
One more important point ALWAYS have food that you can easily reach for at home that is low in fat and fiber filled, this will help to detour your impulse eating!!

Eating whole & healthy foods is important...but there is no particular food that'll make you lose weight or give you any special dietetic value. In the end, it comes down to the amount of calories you take-in vs. how much you burn.

I'd hope & imagine that after a while you'd get pretty burned-out & sick of the food they serve where you work. I'd suggest a strict zero-moderation policy: despite the availability & likely discount, eat NOTHING that comes from that place. That's how I deal with my kids Halloween candy...I know that if I start eating it, I won't lay-off until I'm almost sick and sweating from all the sugar.

Think of your body like you do your car: give it what it "needs" and stop thinking of food as an indulgence. Pick one or two meals per week that you really love and then look forward to that..otherwise keep the cal's below 2,000 and eat a well-balanced meals. There are no magic combinations of protein/carbs or any secret...it's just common-sense eating coupled with an exercise program which incorporates both cardio & weight-training.

I've cut down quite a bit this week. I eat the grill chicken at work now because (after looking at the dietary facts on this sheet they gave me) it doesn't seem too bad.

As for the balanced diet, I just don't really know where to start.

I DON,T know if anyone mentiond exercise, but if you do not, i would start some kind of program.THAT along with clean nutrition will help a lot,and yes NUTRITION is were you start. GOOD LUCK!

Here is my day so far.

6am: 3 eggs with half an avocadio and salsa.

8:30 am - Apple

10:30am - Banana and Peanut Butter

11:30 am - Salmon patty, okra, red beans

1:30pm - banana

And now I am sitting and snakcing on sunflower seeds.

small portions

Hey there,
I think that nutrition is very important and it's great that you recognize that you want a change in your body. I don't think anyone can tell you what to eat exactly and what not to eat. However, I do know that it is important to keep your portions small and eat 4-6 times a day (not 3 big meals). First off, are you working out? Calories are very hard to burn if you are not exercising. (weights and cardio). The best thing to do is eat lots of fruits, veggies and fiber. Eat protein after a workout.
Cut out the junk food if that's a habit, but don't completely deprive yourself of what you want. If you have been working out hard and your sister is having a birthday, don't deprive yourself of a piece of cake. Just don't eat the whole cake :).
Last, drink lots of water. Water retention occurs because the body holds onto it as a result of not getting it.
The main thing is to keep your portions small. Your stomach will gradually shrink as it gets used to those smaller portions.

I hope this helps.
Have a wonderful day!

Man I can't stop snacking on the sunflower seeds. Are they bad for you?
