Working out after work

Im always tired after work, and find it difficult putting a good shift in at the gym after work. Ive tried chopping and changing my diet and even drinking coffee/redbull before hand and it dosent make a difference. Also tried going to bed early and getting a good 8/9 hours sleep

I alaways tend to do a good turn on a Saturday or Sunday though. Any idea on how to get out of this rut.

What is your job?

Have you REALLY tried to change diet/rest?

Do you drink plenty of water? Do you eat enough fruit/veg? Do you eat little but often?

:)

I travel extensively - 30 weeks per year - and work out at least 3 of the 4 days I am on the road. Initially, I felt I was too fatigued, but after struggling at first I found I had more energy because of the workouts.

It can be done and you can do it.

g8's right,

What exactly are your workouts like as well? Try answer these questions and we'l be able to help easier.

I was hoping it was that kind of job :D

Exactly the same as me, 8:30 - 5:00 i work, and i workout without problem.

Just make sure your eating clean, it would be handy if you posted up an average daily diet, and the times you eat.

I make sure i drink around 5-6 pints of water whilst im at work, and i eat every 2-3 hours. I have about 3-4 pieces of fruit whilst at work also.

Same here. I was thinking that you might have a physically demanding job which left you physically exhausted at the end of the work day. Seems to me that you're just mentally exhausted and probably need some fuel in your tank. Try eating a banana and some natural peanut butter before you leave. Then head to the gym.

Example of my daily diet/routine at the minute is :

7:15am: 2 rounds of toast + Peanut butter

10:30am: Large orange or banana

1pm: Large Pasta salad or
2 Baked potatos or
Large chicken sandwich on brown bread

4:00pm: Creatine drink and small snack

5:15: Gym

6:30: Potatos, lean meat/fish, veg

Ive heard alot of good things about peanut butter. Do you think I eat it alone or with bread?

Eat more - You should be bulking. And just keep working at, you will find it will get better as your body becomes used to it. Also, you will find as your physical abilities increase, you will probably find mental stress will decrease as you will feel better, allowing you to work out better still - Vicious circle.

Good luck

Sounds like you might not be eating enough for your daily needs, leading to a lack of energy by the end of the workday.

Also try doing somthing during lunch. Walk around or breka out some push ups...anything to get your blood moving. should give you a boost. I am contemplating introducing a lunchtime run this summer after i've recoverd from my marathon in May.

Eating clean, and eating the right carbs at the right times is important.

Loads of pasta or potatoes for lunch...fast acting, higher GI carbs....leaves you with a bit of a blood sugar crash in the afternoon.

If you had true complex carbs, protein, and veggies, you'd lessen that sugar crash and would feel more invigorated.

Along with eating more and the other comments you should try doing a more intense warm up. This should help get your blood pumpuing and make you feel more energetic and alert.
