Sweating while training

How important--if at all-- is it to sweat when working out?

First, let me start off by saying that I don't sweat easily.

When I first started running, my face would get red and I would break a sweat within the first few minutes.

As I have gotten stronger, it takes a whole lot for me to sweat. Is it a matter of strength or does it mean that my training sessions are not intense enough?

I used to feel that if I didn't break a good sweat I wasn't working out hard enough...is this a myth?

I know it doesn't have anything to do with water consumption as I drink water all day long.

Thanks in advance :)

The reason you sweat is because your body is getting hotter: It's burning more calories to keep up with your activity level.

There is a level of truth to the sweat = workout line. Your body is cooling itself with the sweat.

If you feel the need to step things up to get a good sweat, then do so. It means you're expending more energy.

It is a myth somewhat, your body will adapt and produce less sweat as you get fitter. Some people sweat more than others. I am a big sweater lol. But yeah, if it makes you feel better when you sweat more go for it.

It means you are getting fitter and your body with its network of vessels is becoming more efficient. Don;t worry about sweating so much, just aim to get fairly out of breath or maybe even better buy a heart rate monitor so you can hit the optimal level for your training sessions.

I sweat a lot! And I have very long thick hair that I tie back in a bun when working out and by the time I'm finished it's all soaking wet... which makes it a pain as I have to wash my hair just about every day.

I found when I first started exercising I didn't sweat much, but now I'm really in the zone, and pushing a lot harder and I'm sweating a lot more!

Well...I must say, I'm jealous. :) I love leaving the gym all wet and sweaty--it makes me feel like I really accomplished something.

Which part are you jealous of Keropi? The sweating, the long hair or having to wash the hair just about every day? :cheeky:

Sweating is good though, it's a great feeling, I know I've worked real hard when I come out all drench... don't look so pretty but know I've worked hard :)

Jealous of the sweating...and I wash my hair everyday no matter if I sweat or not. I'm not worried about looking good at the gym, that's not what I'm there for ;);)

Ahhh ok! :) My bad

Yeah, cause I have long thick hair, I'd prefer not too, so now I try and only wash it every 2nd day.

The sweating part... I hate sweating but I know when I am my heart rate is up and I'm burning fat... and I know what you mean, I'm not there to look pretty, would be nice if you could look good AND work out, but yeah, it just doesn't come hand in hand with each other.

Maybe, go to your doctors, make sure there is no problems with your sweat glands??
