I've been doing some mucking about with bodyfat numbers and...
If I can make it down to 170 lbs this month (currently sitting at 180), without losing any appreciable muscle, I should be at about 13-14%. The goal for the summer was 15%, from 25.5% at the start of the last week of June.
But from there I'm not sure if I should go clear down to 6-8% in September, or just start a loooong, clean bulk, and cut down to 6% before my 4 month tour of Europe and Asia next summer. I'm leaning towards bulking because it seems more fun, and a lot of knowledgeable peeps I respect say that if they could go back and do it over again, they would have bulked first and then cut (in a reasonably low starting bodyfat range, I mean).
Details: I have been deficit dieting on and off for several years, losing a grand total of 110 lbs (come 170). I was never really consistent with weight training (or anything, really) until just a month or two ago. I was very athletic (extremely active in many sports) early in my youth, but for the 10'ish years after that I basically sat on my ass eating bratwurst and ice cream. So for all intents and purposes, I am a beginner. A skinny-fat beginner.
I know many of you have different thoughts on this, and I've read some of it before, but I'd appreciate it if you would "weigh in". Thanks!
