Perfecting my plan, now to implement!

Short ride finished, a short 6 mile loop, 22 minutes, 16mph. My legs feel fine but my lungs suck due to lack of recent cardio. I was really getting some good endurance when I fell off the wagon.

Anyway, I've got 4 weeks to get geared up for a 73 mile ride. It sounds like a lot but with focus it won't be a problem. I've already got my weeks planned for 2 mid-length rides during the week, say 20 or so miles each, then a long ride on a weekend day, say 25, 40, 50 and 60 miles each ending with the 73 mile ride on the final weekend. Todays ride was short but it was the 1st time on my bike this year. I'll plan a 12-15 mile ride later in the week then 25 this weekend.

Greg, if you can get up to 60 miles on practice rides, you'll be able to gut out the last 13 on ride day.

Damn, guess I gotta work out every day to stay on page 1.

Anyway, job update, the VA medical center called me today and set up an interview for both positions for which I applied. Looks like I've at least got a shot at it. Not to mention the fact that I did my internship at this facility and one of my best friends is a dietitian there at the current moment. Wish me luck, Greg

Thanks g8r. I really like what I'm doing now, but I don't like the feeling that the company can come in at any time and cut commission if they darn well please without any regard for the employees. It's all about the bottom line and I'm not so sure I'm too fond of that. Anyway, we'll see what happens.

Tomorrow will be an "off" day. We are going to my sister and brother-in-laws to help them with a customer appreciation picnic they do every year. They appreciate the help and it's a good time for our kids to spend some time together.

Sunday will be a longer ride, around 20 miles. Not sure my 1st scheduled ride is gonna happen. The guy I ride with messed up his knee and can't ride. I doubt I'll ride by myself. However, the ride in June is definitely a go. Just that much more training to get ready. I'll set an aggressive goal for myself so I don't slack off on my training. I'm kind of looking forward to getting some physical activity in soon.

I'm reviving this old thread and forgetting the others. My wife is doing her own thing with the girls at work and workout wise we are just on 2 different pages. So, "our" journal is gone, "Mine" is here to stay.

I'm still unemployed but actually have a job at the VA hospital in Muskogee. They are just waiting for an actual start date when they can bring me on. In the meanwhile I'm playing Mr. Mom and doing my own thing during the day. I did get approved for unemployment today so that is good. However, it's only 1/3 the money I used to and will soon make again. But, every little bit helps.

Anyway, I rode my mountain bike about 7 miles tonight. It was very humid but little or no wind. Good pace, nice ride overall. I'm sticking more to cardio right now. It's just kind of a mood I'm in. I'll start back with the weights soon. 10-12 mile road bike ride scheduled for tomorrow night provided the weather holds.

Another good thing! The VA has a very nice employee weight room. The current plan is to leave the house at about 6:30 each morning so I can train prior to work. Then, I can have another cardio session in the evenings to get me wound down and ready for bed.

That's plenty for now. Sorry to ramble (is that wordmash FF?). I'll be more focused starting tomorrow. Take care and keep me motivated so I can give the youngster Aimin4165 a run for his money.

Wow, I've still got a lot going on at the house. I sanded my deck yesterday. I'l be cleaning, brightening and staining my deck next week. I've got laminate wood flooring ordered to come in hopefully the next week or so etc. But, I haven't been working out. I spend the mornings on the internet (instead of training) because once the kids are up, the internet is over taken by them. Once they are up, the rest of my day is filled with everything else.

My son starts football tonight. I'm going to ride my bike over to practice and meet him and my wife. I'll bike for about an hour while he practices then meet them for the ride home. Maybe that will get me back in the game a little.

Uhm, could someone call me or come by in the morning and "encourage" me to workout? Thanks, Greg

P.S. - I finally have a start date of August 4th for my new job. That's 2 1/2 weeks people. This unemployment stuff is for the birds. If I lived in a real town with a real gym life would be so much better (anyone hear a crybaby?).

Take care all, Greg

this is, to me, what fitness is all about! you rule today man! totally!

gimme the number again and I will!

'Suuuuupppp Greg. :hug2:

Tell you what: if you don't come back here and tell us you did all that exercise by say... 9 p.m. your time, tomorrow night, I will google your address and mail you some anthrax.

Is this motivating? :D

Yes, I rode (thank goodness)!!!!

And, you are right, I need a motivation injection. I'm having such a hard time now doing anything at home. Maybe I really do "need" the gym setting to get anything done. Being at home just doesn't motivate me. Basically now it's up to me. There are no real excuses as to why I can't do it, I'm just not motivated. I feel 100% better when I exercise so I can't figure out why I don't do it more often.

I am going to continue to ride on football nights (3x/wk) and start taking advantage of the morning time at home to work out. I've got the time, I like the quietness so there is no reason I can't do it. I just have to get off my arse and make it happen.

I don't know what it is about a "gym". Maybe it's the social aspect, maybe it's being away from the house and not being interrupted, I don't know. I think I consider my gym time as "me time" and I need that for my mental health. It will be great to start work and have the time to spend at the gym after work, before coming home. This used to be the time I enjoyed so much. No cell phone, no nothing. Me time here I come. Take care all, Greg

... Uhm. I better call UPS.

Haha, good for you, Greg. Why don't you join the draft anyway? I believe we're still short a drafter... or is it a draftee. As a drafter you could pick someone to work with who will kick your ass. Or maybe trade me for Drex, since he seems to have a reputation as a real dinosaur.

I'll take a look at the draft thread here in a bit. I haven't even looked at it.

Just wanted to say Thanks to everyone. Just stopping by earlier motivated me to get something done. I just finished 20 minutes on the recumbent bike followed by 4 supersets (bench, lat pulldown, tricep pushdowns, curls). I really feel rejuvenated. It's funny how taking care of myself decreases the daily stress I feel of helping take care of everyone else in the house.

Aim, get ready brother 'cuz i'm approaching full speed until the finish line. Let's get it on!!!

Yes. Rock on, brother. :D

It's so true, too. I actually sleep 3-4 hours less a day than when I was sedentary and feel more rested. I feel better in every way imaginable. And I do mean every way. ;)

... I feel I'm becoming Big Tom.

Anyway, just do it. Slap the **** out of yourself until it's either explain why you are slapping yourself, leave dark hand marks on your face and have to explain THAT later, or go do it. Works for me. :SaiyanSmilie_anim:

I wouldn't bother with the draft thread. It's a clown college. Just shoot tony a pm and see what he has to say. Hopefully it'll work out. Or, y'know...if you want, you can have my spot. I think you'd benefit from it more, as awesome as it would be to be partners with Drex. Just knowing he exists makes me work harder. :p

Focus, sounds like you're a little scared of what Drex might do to you, hehehe. Give him hell DREX!!! Work his butt off and show him how it is.

I went ahead and signed up. There are a lot of "drafters" out there that remind me of where I once was and where I can be again. With the right, daily motivation, I can get back to where I was. I usually get about 1/2 way to my goal then fall out. With someone challenging me daily (I rode 40 miles, what are you gonna do beatch) I'll thrive on that and reach my goal 100%.

WTF? You're talking focus talk again, lol. Clarify for me a bit bro!

I'mma go to the YMCA, where I shall do a beastly lower body workout in which I shall beat all of my personal bests, while on a starvation diet, with a very tight/sore back that has me taking 15 seconds to get up out of my chair, like old people. :D

After which I will go for a brisk walk, because that's all I'm allowed. Currently assessing the difference in results on the Velocity Diet between option A (****lots of exercise in addition to weight training most days and brisk walks every day) and option B (just the weight training and walking). I'm guessing the former was causing me to lose muscle, as my strength was actually declining (which is unheard of for me).

The "DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHOM YOU FACE!?" line is from a video game. It was meant to strike fear into your heart, and also possibly amusement. :p

Get on with your bad self then.

By the way, I do get a kick out of a lot of your threads so you're right on with the humor part.

Will post fitday journal later this evening.
